thinking of taking it in march but i am having second thoughts if i will learn anything that really effect my diving skills,i am sure i will pick up something but is it worth the effort.

IMHO, it can be a VERY worthwhile class with the right instructor..

I second O-Ring- any well done class can be worth it. If you learn something new and hone your skills, its worth it.

This is one course that I think every dive should take regardless of the agency you use.

Not only will you learn rescue skills, but also self-rescue skills which I think is more important.

You will enjoy the course; it is one of my favorite courses to assist with.

I think it completes your "inital open water" education. It is continution and the summation of the trilogy of OW, and AOW...Rescue. Now you learn how to best look after your buddy. It is perhaps the best recreational course you can take.

Do it!

Agreed with the others. You may want to get the DAN O2 course, too. Might come handy on those boat dives :D

IMNSHO, until you complete OW, AOW and Rescue, you're a guppy, not a diver. If you're going to be a diver, you have a responsibility to yourself and to your buddy(ies) to take the rescue course and to keep your skills fresh. Here's hoping you never need the skills but being prepared isn't just for Boy Scouts.

i read on rescue before taking the course. I took it primarily for my own safety in diving. AND IT REALLY HAS HELPED ME MAKE SAFER DIVES.

though my rescue training was not the minimal skills and knowledge. as i did some extra reading and research on my own and there were skills given to me beyond the minimum requirement of PADI, i welcomed it as it would just be an extra challenge for me.

I had a gruelling rescue diver training and I really appreciate the 'extras'.

It's really up to you if you would like to benefit from the additional trainings but i take trainings for improvement of my diving and not just to get over it for the certification. After all Diving is our own responsibility .

I think it would be lame for anyone to go on a dive and then sue people because the diver got into trouble. If you think something is not right then abort the dive. its better to waste a few hundred dollars than spend thousand on legal suits and maybe a life. So be a S.A.F.E. diver take the trainings and do continue on learning of the dangers of the sport. :thumb:

but I had a good instructor. Did nothing for my dive skills, but I learned a few worthwhile rescue skills and the confidence to use them, though I hope I never have to.

Ditto for me also...Much of the class is spent in water 10 feet deep or less, so your dive skills are not where you will get the most improvement. You'll gain a bunch in being able to recognize a scenerio and be able to react to it.
