There are folks who have been diving wet all winter. In fact Saturday my wife and I are going to give it a shot. I've been diving dry and she has been sitting the winter out. We have a trip coming up and she really want's to try a different configuration before hand, diving an Al-80 for the first time. We have a handfull of other wet diver joining us.

Bring plenty of hot water to prime your suit and to spike some warmth in after the dive before you strip down. Plan a shorter, shallower dive and don't get too far from shore. Do not let your self get anywhere close to shivering. If you look around here you can find plenty of references to 20 minute dives. With the cold you will also blow through air quicker so keep an eye on that too.

Be prepared to hear that we all insane.

What were the water temps last time you dived? Did you get cold?

Last week we had temps 37-39F up in Rockport. Not sure what the freshwater temps are but probably similar. It isnt warm... BUT it is totally doable, especially now with the air temps warming up! Makes for a better surface interval.

first time we were in hathoways it was 52f April 8th/9th of 05 2 weeks later was last time it was 54. We weren't freezing but it was cold. No shivering under water. we were wearing 7mm.

as far as i remember we were told that the pond is 10 degrees warmer then the ocean.

For a lot of divers 50F is the cross-over between comfortable 7mm diving and having it be more of.... an adventure. I have been skindiving for 60+ minutes in 40F with my full 7mm and enjoyed it fully. Tomorrow will be scuba and few degrees cooler. I have one buddy that has been doing it all winter while waiting for them to get her DS right.
