Wyno once bubbled...
I’m not only new to this forum but new to diving and I like to hear how others think. But it is kind of hard to take when some say your brain will rot if you use a computer to dive with  . You’re doing it wrong if you come up on a line head first instead up horizontal. Not to mention if you don’t have a 5 to 7 ft primary house you must be doing it wrong. No BP and wing setup, oops, doing it wrong again.

If that is not what DIR divers are saying, you sure make us new divers think that is what you are saying. I do agree with the quote that GP put up from Chad,

We need Idea’s, not, this way or it’s wrong.

We here in the control room would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you for turning this thread into a self-fulfilling prophecy...

The thread was started because some people feel that many threads here on the boards descend into a DIR vs. non-DIR argument. I feel pretty confident that with the shot you just fired, this thread was just relegated to the same dustbin...

You can't see me now, but I am laughing my a$$ off...we seriously need videoconferencing on this board.

I like reef's idea the best. Having a DIR forum would be terrible... when someone who doesn't know about DIR comes in and asks what kind of bc to buy, or how to route their octo.. would "the DIR guys" not be allowed to say "long hose bungeed backup" or "a backplate with harness"?

A decidedly non-DIR forum might be a good idea, but I'm worried about all the other forums becoming DIR forums because the non-DIR guys will all move to the non-DIR forum.

and counterproductive to learning.

Folks you have a front row seat to the next stage of the evolution of diving. It's very much like what happened when BCs first began to appear, same with octopi.

DIR is the future of diving, first of tech diving, eventually of all diving. You may as well quit fighting it and be assimilated.

Tongue-in-cheek, sorta. I really believe this is what's occurring. Hide and watch.

i must correct you here. Diving is like a moving train through time. yes it has evolved to the GUE aproch. but GUE jumped off the train as sooon as they found something that worked. now they stand beside the tracks shouting to others to jump off here and stop going forward

just a little tongue-in-check to maintain the GUE vs non GUE divers

To stay on topic
A DIR forum. I thought that is what this was

It would be interesting to have a heading under each section that did not allow GUE intervention. ie the post would be removed by regulators

one section under basic scuba, one under technical, etc

this way people could discuss things that GUE is opposed to without being lamblasted.

for those who say it would never work can just stay in the GUE forum that we have now, and those who want to try it can progress forward. we would just need one regulator to monitor for GUE vs everybody rederic

Did I mention GUE? I don't think so.

No you didn't it is just my attempt to seperate the teachers from the subject.

DIR is not the problem and does not need to be seperated [imo]
much if not all DIR is valuable as part of any overall conversation about diving.

I was saying that the GUE attitude that DIR is the only system and that any other system is a death sentence. prohibits discution on any other types of systems without it turning into an argument.

A separate forum might not be the answer, but intelligent use of existing forums might help. It's not only DIR that has it's problems, normally it starts with someone asking something simple, like how to install an Air2 and gets bashed for having one in the first place. (This is just an example, no offence to anyone in any other discussion that MAY have this example in it.) My point I guess is that its going to happen. Free speach, bashing, opinions... whatever you want to call it is alive and well. If everyone just agreed about everything nobody would learn or hear other viewpoints. Yes threads get out of hand at times and even off topic fairly quick, but that's just the way it is... I for one just skim over the stuff I am not interested in and move on to the next thread. If things start getting over-moderated then people might not post something useful in fear that it may be inappropriate to the thread, I'd really hate to see that happen here.

Anyway, it's too nice outside right now to be sitting in here typing on the computer so I'm going to go now.

Can't we all just get along? ;-0
