im planning on doing a lobster run this weekend and i was wondering if its legal to get lobsters out of shaws cove.

Yes, Shaws is a legal lobster take, but good luck finding the little buggers.
Also beware: All of Laguna is watched closely by life guards (yes, night duty) and other authorities. Make sure that you have your license and an ocean enhancemnt sticker in your vehicle, a measuring device on you, and a dive buddy.

Lots of eels in Shaws too. The other day I stuck my arm into a crevice to pull out a large shell and in my peripheral vision a large morray had come most of the way out and was getting heavily in my face.

The only place in Laguna that you CANNOT take bugs from is Heisler Park, just a bit south of Shaw's. And there are better sites in Laguna if bugs are your goal. Just keep in mind the bug network is much more aware of becoming someone's dinner, given the season has been open for so long. They probably have been monitoring Scubaboard and know you're coming.

Actually it's the Eastern 1/2 of Diver's Cove (basically all of it since it's so small), Heisler's, and a Western portion of the Main Beach that are all Illegal to take.

Here's the deal-read the brown signs at the top of each set of steps and the DF&G website has this map on it.

Kevin is right, however, there are much better sites for bugs.

yeah i find it confusing when the brown signs say its prohibited to take any marine life. i checked out the DFG web site but they dont have a map for 2007 just 2006. i know they should be the same but still... ive been diving laguna alot and i see bugs every time i go but i know now i got my fishing license they'll all magically disappear:11doh:

Hi Bruce,
That's always the way or they'll be just out of reach !!!!

Happy Hunting
John

The map is still the same. Don't get caught in or coming out of Diver's with a bug. Minimum fine is $750.00 for that one.

And it's true. They are watching ScubaBoard, and now they know that you are licensed to catch them. You're doomed like the rest of us!!! :-D

cool thanks for the advice guys! i just came back from my first bug hunt at shaws, i spent a good portion of time trying to get these two bugs out but like Jmdiver said they were just out of reach! oh yeah where are these better sites you guys talk of? if anyone is interested in doing a bug dive this week im game.
