Is it (a relatively) safe idea or are we crazy?

Never been to Bonaire, but I have done plenty of solo dives in many places around the world with and without a pony.

If you are going to use a pony, it might be a good idea to have some instruction on how to rig it as well as to deploy and use it. Nothing beats actual experience in using one despite all the reading you can do on SB.

Another item your husband could use is an SMB, and it might give you some peace of mind as you watch it from the shore while you sup on your post dive cocktail.

Thanks for the SMB idea. I bubble watch from the deck but never thought to have him use his SMB!

Update. I contacted the owners of our condo rental and they found a pony bottle for us so we are set. Here we come Bonaire!

Man, you are so lucky! I've always wanted to dive with a pony...

A buddy can't prevent cardiac issues, passing out, etc. They can find the body if lucky, otherwise a buddy is usually a liability. ....

I have seen a successful rescue of a passed out buddy and cardiac victim all at depth with a lot of deco. The point is that neither would have made if the solo dived.

I do agree that having a medical issue while submerged your chances are very slim or close to null. They where lucky, but I would rather take my chances with a huge amount of buddy luck than none!!!

Have a fantastic trip! There are safe, responsible divers with buddies or without. It's our choice who we dive with or without. Please let me know how you like the diving in Bonaire. My wife and I are planning a trip there soon with lots of diving. Just her and I and she doesn't dive! She'll be on shore catching some rays while I'm diving with my 19. I dive with a pony quite often when the dive calls for it. Be it off my kayak, off the shore, or off a boat. Dive, dive, dive... or kick back... our choice!

I hate to highjack a thread, but I have been reading through a lot of posts today... What exactly is this +1 Stage strap equipment for?? It just looks like a clip to me? Do you attach an extra tank to it? How is that different than double cylindering?
