i am trying to think of something positive that came out of this thread, but other than my post count quotas being met, i can't think of anything...

howarde really summed it up:

howarde:
It sounded to me like it went more like this...

The "mob" asked about how a friend got banned so quickly without warning. It progressed to suggesting that warnings be more clear in the future, so people don't confuse advice with a warning...(teenager whine perhaps - this is sweet - just what we were talking about)

Then the discussion moved away from bans in general, and attempted to focus on the fact that there is a general secrecy about how things are moderated, and it would be nice if there was a bit more open communication (RE: threads being closed and deleted) -

Although several people confused the request for more open conversation to be about banning, which is more of a private matter, and shouldn't be discussed, unless the banned party wishes to speak about it.

This request for more communication - was also confused by some to be a paranoid, the sky is falling, there are thought police in my head, I need a tin foil hat to keep them out... but it was really attempting to focus on customer service.

I think Howard's conclusion could have been the last post before this thread was closed

I mean that one:

howarde:
- I believe, in the end... all we "the mob" are really asking for is just a little more communication from above with respect to why some choices are made.

I'm not talking about why people are banned. I think we've covered that, and it IS private between your staff and the banned party. If the banned party wishes to discuss it that's up to them. period... end of story on that.

More communication would help us mob members to understand why certain threads are closed, moreso than just a "it violated TOS" - well duh... of course it did, why else would it be closed. But if more specific details were expressed to the rest of the world, we would have a better understanding of the TOS, as it's being interpreted by you and your staff, without violating anyone's privacy. :)

So, all things having been said, does anyone have any objection to closing this thread and moving on along to more constructive matters?

I too think it has been constructive, even through a few distractions.

As a reader, not a contributor to this thread, I agree. Opinions have been well stated by some, others are just prolonging the whine. Time to move on.

Constructive and closed works here. . . as long as it not deleted :D

I think we can move on, but actually closing the thread defeats the purpose of the thread. Afterall it as a thread about critcism of moderators. The solution is not for a moderator to close the thread.

Just move on.

The preponderance of this thread has been a healthy discussion and sometime vent of how things could be better. There has been some whining but nothing that can't be overlooked. There have been some jibes, with some feelings getting hurt which was regrettable. I don't consider anyone posting in here to be a "detractor" of the site. But, we do seem to have a few with extreme loyalty to the Board. That can't be bad!

Much has changed since the inception of www.ScubaBoard.com and much will change again over the years. Hopefully this will be for the better. We are far more open to sharing the inner workings than when we first begun and we are still looking for that happy medium.

I would say that we are probably more inclusive than your average forum, and probably the most inclusive forum that has Scuba Diving as it's focus. It is both a blessing and a curse. The intent of the current Advisors is to build on our harmony, both within the Mod Squad as well as in the community. We are committed to that concept and comitted to listening to YOU the ScubaBoardian.
