Missdirected:
I get on average at least one pm a week from total strangers, who dare not post. Usually asking for guidance, direction, or assistance, which I do not mind in the slightest. I often get "you seem nice", which is quite flattering, if I do say so myself. However, I can't help but think they are on the losing end of the stick. I have one in my box now that I am going to do some quick research for; however, I feel she would have benefited more by posting a thread. I guess what I am getting at is many are not seeing the family aspect or friendly atmosphere.

You don't just refer them to DD?

H2Andy:
ScubaBoard is the great place it is because its members think of it as a place to hang out with friends and shoot the breeze

it's not a diving board, though it's main subject is diving

anyone who says that it is a diving board does not understand ScubaBoard, what they have in their hands, how it got so big, and why it's the best board out there

how many internet boards have members who put twice-annual trips together? or weekly boat dives? or fly from the pacific northwest to key largo to meet other scuba board members?

you don't understand the scubaboard community if you think this is just a dive board, sorry

I didn't say that I wanted to get rid of everything. I even want to keep MOFNMOF. I think there needs to be a balance, though, and I think that the global warming and evolution threads are on the wrong side of the balance. I definitely don't want to see more threads like the global warming and evolution ones...

I agree that the global warming, and evolution is over the line. I believe I even reported the evolution thread when it began, with the report saying, "are you serious"?

One of the few times I used the report post button... BTW - I got no response.

I seem to have hit a sensitive spot with those two examples, geez!!! :11:

I personnaly dont mind the global warming one since divers will have to (or not to depending on your side) deal with the effects (or absence of effects) of global warming (or glaciation) and anyway, it was in the non-diving forum.

But the creation/evolution one is a more sensitive subject since it touches peoples strong beliefs and religion.

IMHO, religion and politics are two subjects that should not be allowed in Boards like SB. The rest is fine as long as it's in the non diving section.

can we expect a response when using the report button?

I have used it a few times, and never heard back.

although, I have, been on the recieving end more than once. so I know that (according to the warnings I recieved) the mods do respond to some.

Does this really surprise YOU? :D

actually, Mods do respond to the "reports" they receive from members

but it is not common practice to contact the reporting member

here's yet another disconnect. the MOds take the reports very seriously, yet, the members don't know that because no one tells them anything once they hit the report button

the Mods bust their butts responding, but the members have no clue. what the members perceive is a lack of response and engagement from the Mods ... which couldn't be further from the truth

Mods do a great job in the back ... doesn't get communicated to the members

classic example of what i am trying to point out
