It may be a community of divers, but it makes sense to segment the discussion to a degree and keep certain discussions left to other forums on the net..

What about the creation vs evolution thread then? (4022 posts, 152 by Lamont ;))

or the Global warming one? Where do we draw the line?

the whaling threads

But I agree, I hate politics in a forum. It's a banned subject in most families during the holidays, along with hockey when the Quebec Nordiques were still in the NHL :D

Yes, and *PLEASE* get rid of those two.

I tend to do a search on threads that I've posted in when I hit scubaboard and I keep on getting sucked back into those two... I keep hoping they'll die or get pulled...

well.... whales dive dont they? ;):D
they are freedivers.

ScubaBoard is the great place it is because its members think of it as a place to hang out with friends and shoot the breeze

it's not a diving board, though it's main subject is diving

anyone who says that it is a diving board does not understand ScubaBoard, what they have in their hands, how it got so big, and why it's the best board out there

how many internet boards have members who put twice-annual trips together? or weekly boat dives? or fly from the pacific northwest to key largo to meet other scuba board members?

you don't understand the scubaboard community if you think this is just a dive board, sorry

IT'S A SCUBA DIVING BOARD!!!!!!!!!:blinking:

Not a secret police? Seriously guys I urge you to examine how you are viewed. If not for anything but the promotion of this board. The "old school" mentality OE had was not working - where one group is waiting "scared" for the big door to open and the gods or police, if you will, to emerge.

Seriously, this place is slightly out of control and is very "scary," particularly to new members. Those that are supporting the rather nasty comments - you must realize how off-putting this is to new people. Maybe instead of an SI a Sailors only room?

I get on average at least one pm a week from total strangers, who dare not post. Usually asking for guidance, direction, or assistance, which I do not mind in the slightest. I often get "you seem nice", which is quite flattering, if I do say so myself. However, I can't help but think they are on the losing end of the stick. I have one in my box now that I am going to do some quick research for; however, I feel she would have benefited more by posting a thread. I guess what I am getting at is many are not seeing the family aspect or friendly atmosphere.

Okay I am just rambling now.

this is the key

unfortunately, i've been trying to say this without success

you guys need to understand the scubaboard community and what is going on, and how you are perceived as a result

come on guys ... this isn't hard to grasp

you have a wonderful backroom and horrible public relations perception up front

you could be a guide Tracy
