As Dennis pointed out in his post (81) I too have seen what that gentile reminder can do coming from someone you respect.
It's not that mods can't get mad, but I think a warning in a less than angry tone would be more effective, in most of the cases.

A well placed "Ahem" works very well

Banning Process

In this particular case there were some extenuating circumstances which we will not reveal to the board. It's a commitment to your privacy that prevents us from doing this. Does the person in question know what these are? I am suren they do, even if they don't share it with others.

Banning has been and will always be considered an extreme measure designed to get your attention. Quite often warnings are ignored and when they are pointed out later we get the response, "Oh you really meant that?" If you won't respond to gentle persuasion then we need to do something a bit more dramatic to get you to play nice in the sandbox.

Again, ScubaBoard should be fun for all involved, including mods. Flames are never allowed and should always be reported. You are free to disagree with any decision that the mods make (as this thread so aptly demonstrates) without fear of being stomped on. However, challenging the authority by using deprecatory language or by creating additional sock puppets simply won't be tolerated.

All bans to contributing members are discussed first. Input is sought & majority opinion usually wins. no decision is unilateral except drive by spammers who are simply permabanned on sight. (i.e. cell phone ads)
