Just because they are supporting members doesn't mean they will be treated any differently. . .
Hey look post 11

Going red does not invalidate the TOS.

Since it is impossible to comment without knowing the specifics, I have PMed Howard for these.

Also the offender in this case is a supporting member.
From the FAQ:

Do Supporting Members get special treatment?
Absolutely not! ScubaBoard appreciates the contribution made by all of our members but we do not grant favors to members of any level. The TOS is clearly worded to outline what is allowed and what is not, any user violating the rules will be subject to the same discipline as any other member regardless of what they pay. We also maintain a strict “no refunds” policy for users who are banned while under the Supporting Member plan; this means that if you are a Supporting Member and are banned we will not refund your remaining payments as your ban is a result of your actions and yours alone. Paying to upgrade is not a way to avoid the TOS!

That is why they work as a team and dont ban people singlehandedidellydoo. If I understood correctly in the late banned thread, they discuss it in a meeting and take a group decision before banning someone. Am I correct?

That's fine about going Red, and I understand that it's not a free pass to say whatever you will.

- BTW - someone must know what I'm talking about, because the "offending post" is now deleted.

Not deleting the post may have been an oversight. We sometimes get pretty busy.

Upon review of what the post said, it is my humble opinion that this was anything BUT constructive criticism, and in fact a highly derogatory flame. We never want to ban someone, but I have to agree with the mod in question on this one.

That flame is in stark contrast to the tenor of this thread. Options are discussed, disappointments and confusion expressed. There is no comparing the staff to a regime known for oppression and genocide. This is what I would refer to as being "constructive". The flame in the other thread was probably intended to hurt, embarrass and chastise. If that was not the case, then the OP needs to learn a bit of netiquette

But this guy said it never happened. . . .

criticism of Mods is not a banning offense, thank God, or i'd been banned a lot of times

the manner in which you critize, however, is very important

there is always room for constructive criticism, but using derrogatory or loaded language, or obsenities or whatever just shouldn't be done

that said, i do agee that some Mods are not exactly "diplomatic" in their application of TOS, which can lead to an escalation of feelings

i also believe the onus is on the Mods to remain diplomatic even in the face of aggression. they need to be professional and not get into word games that will simply inflame the situation

sorry, guys... it's a crappy job, but somebody's got to do it

Pete and mods who have volunteered their time and the headaches that moderating a large forum entails: Thank you. We're all human and we all make mistakes, sometimes. Sometimes feelings get hurt and situations get escalated to the point of being entirely out of hand. Hopefully, we can be compassionate and gracious to one another, and treat each other with respect and dignity.
