Bob, I have a great deal of respect for you, and have never had a beef with you, but I can tell you that one of the users you mention above (and I won't say which one) treated me very disrespectfully as a user once. Without going into too many details, let's just say I think we can agree that when a user asks in a PM "Did I do something wrong that prompted your comment?", the appropriate way to respond is not with sarcasm and a non-answer.

Point being, this place wasn't utopia under the old guard, it isn't under the new guard, and it never will. I can deal with that. Please don't act like this is the first time anyone has ever felt sleighted by a mod. I am sure I am not the only poster in this board that feels this way...
I had the same issue and probably with the same person. Since they aren't here now, it makes it a bit easier to participate without worrying if they are going to spontaneously overreact again. I'm not saying that I haven't overreacted before, but I'm willing to listen to my peers and take counsel from their advice.

I am not even sure I would describe the incident as an overreaction. Just a downright ineffective way to deal with someone who wants to learn from a mistake. I actually initiated the dialogue with the FMQ through PMs myself because he had posted a general warning in the thread. I stated that I was not sure if FMQ was referring to me or not, but if he was, I would like to know what I said that prompted his response so I could learn from it and refine my behavior in the future. The FMQ replied with utter dripping sarcasm and a non-answer, sort of an "if the shoe fits" type of an answer. My reply to the FMQ was an apology, but stressing that I wasn't jerking FMQ around, and that I really didn't know what my offense was and wanted to know. More sarcasm. I once again replied pleading with FMQ to tell me what I did so I could correct my own behavior. On third exchange, FMQ finally cited what I said that was wrong, then proceeded to give me credit for being the only offender on the thread to actually make an effort to talk to FMQ about the situation. Some way to reward a concerned poster, eh?

Thanks El Orans. You most certainly were not the mod in question, and at the time, I handled it personally with the mod. I have not brought up any names, partly because that would just not be right, but also because my point isn't that I got wronged by a mod. My point was that these things happen, and for certain users to go on and on about how the new regime is the secret police and the old regime was running the Garden of Eden....well, that just ain't exactly how it worked. I don't like watching the pot call the kettle black without being called on it.

Geeze... this is such a soap opera.

If it wasn't for all the whining, I wouldn't have even noticed that the mod squad had changed. For the life of me I can't figure out what the gripe is.

Often, a mod's mistakes have nothing to do with SB policies. Either they misunderstand them or are ignorant of them. I would wager that ANYONE can make a mistake and that we have enough spin doctors here that they can make it look like a heinous conspiracy to usurp the rights and fun of the users.

Again, if you feel a mod has acted improperly, a simple PM to them (and maybe to me) will more than likely resolve a simple misunderstanding. I understand that the more public executions have their entertainment value if your goal is to disrupt, harm embarrass or cajole. But, if you simply want to help, then PMs are the way to go.

NetDoc:
Yeah, we get that. Mostly from former management. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

pls see my PM

way to go Andy :D
