I'd buy a yoke 1st stage and a DIN converter.
NOT THE SAME AS AN ADAPTOR!
Doesn't ad extra bulk and an extra failure point to the 1st stage.

Basically you'd used the DIN locally, then when going on vacation you would actually remove the DIN connector and screw the yoke in its place.

No second job, I'm just broke! Well maybe not broke, but my bank account doesn't seem to be getting any bigger. And I don't even dive doubles yet.

MechDiver:
In blue's place, I would really have no idea.

Speaking generally, you can have two for backgas, one for argon, two for deco and one for travel gas. Blue may also have a spare air

MD

2 regs for your twin tanks
1 reg for your argon bottle
2 regs for your 2 stage tanks
1 reg for your hang tank

And depending on how deep you go and how long you stay, you may need 3 stage tanks for a total of 3 regs during deco.

Sometimes Mech betrays his lack of experience, and this was one of those times, LOL !!

Yeah ... except for those people who think that Apeks, Poseidon, Mares, Atomic, Zeagle, or Aqualung are the best ... and I'm sure I left a few out.

There are many excellent lines of reg out there ... ScubaPro just happens to be one of them.

... Bob (Grateful Diver)

I would trade you OMS for Mares. OMS definitely makes great regs, whereas Mares is a recreational brand that has no place among technical diving similar to Oceanic, in my opinion.

Also you may want to point out that Atomic is a ScubaPro spin-off and Apeks is a Zeagle spin-off, so virtually no difference there between the spin-off brands and their parent.

... Now I've moved on to my reg evaluation/purchase. Apeks ds4/ATX vs. sp G250/Mk? vs atomic B1/......Rather than stir up any brand loyalty discussions, am I correct that I need DIN instead of yoke, and when I dive carribbean, they have been almost exclusively yoke. If so, then I need a din-to-yoke adapter, and do they cause an additional point of failure. ...
Thanks...

Definitely DIN all around. And you will need 1 DIN-to-yoke adaptor for your tropical nontech trips.

Whatever reg you buy, it should be the top of the line for that brand. So if you are looking at ScubaPro, you are looking at a Mark 20 1st stage and an S600 2nd stage. You will need at least 3 Mark 20s and at least 3 S600s. Your other three regs may be of lower performance, since one of them will go onto your argon bottle and the others will go onto your shallow-depth rich mix deco mix (MOD 20 or 30 ft depending on your rich mix).

Some tech divers believe that all 6 of your regs should be high performance, and O2 cleaned, since you may have to switch regs underwater in case a reg fails and you still need the mix in the bottle.

I specifically do not like my bottom mix regs (2 total) to be O2 cleaned. Nor do I like my argon bottle reg to by O2 cleaned. But my 3 other deco mix regs are in fact O2 cleaned.

IndigoBlue:
Apeks is a Zeagle spin-off.
You've got that backwards. Apeks made Zeagles regs for sometime before Zeagle actually came out with there own regs.

The salient point being they are virtually the same. Read for meaning, Cnidea, and not for nits.

humba, please do not listen to this.

High performance reg on your long hose and deco bottles, lower performance reg on your necklace and some reliable POS for an argon reg (1st stage only with an OPV).

Roak

Doh! What part of "travel gas" didn't you understand? That also becomes your first deco gas.

Sometimes Blue displays his lack of thought processes...well, why beat a dead horse.

question:

what is the argon regulator for?

ah.. i see... it's a first stage only? that makes sense.
