Wow what a great response. I will followup with an update on my profile ASAP. Thanks all for your gracious welcome to the board. I look forward to learning as much as I can as we begin our Sucba careers.

Hello Swarth! I am a brand-new member, and brand-new diver as well! My fiance and I are going to Kauai in October for our wedding and while we are there will complete our open water dives for certification. Where in Kauai were you staying and which dive shop did you go with? We are signed up with Fathom Five, in Koloa.

Koloa landing is where the majority of beginner shore dives take place on the southshore. We did our intro dive there 3 years ago, and our cert dives this time. Very easy in/out and lots to see. Highlights were, Leaf Scorpian, Octopus, Skipjack Tuna, Comersons frog fish, several Eels and a few shells. We chose Mana Divers instead of Fathom (our second choice) just because we felt that we would receive more personalized service. After you get your cert, if you have time, do a boat dive it was a good experience, even if conditions we not the best. Our Captain, Ken was great. When heading home we were joined by a pod of bow riding Spinner Dolphins. Ken asked if anyone would like to try and snorkle with them, I said yes and he put the boat in postion in front of them and I slipped into the water, they ended up coming towards me and swimming within 5 feet of me, amazing. We stayed up in Princeville(northshore) in our timeshare. If possible, when up on the northshore, try to do a shore dive at Tunnels. We just were able to snorkle there and it was fantastic, at one point we were surrounded by 4 turtles including one that liked coming up around 2-3 feet face to face and then swim around us.

Swarth, thanks for the great info! We will be doing our checkout dives at Koloa landing, according to our dive shop. We have done boat dives in the past, down in Mexico (intro dives), and I loved them. We're hoping to squeeze in a night dive after our checkout dives. We'll also have to check out tunnels.

Thanks again, and welcome to the board!
Jen
