I'm a Fish!
We had an interesting day.

First off we went on a fund raising bike ride in Bonners Ferry up near the Maple Leaf clan.

The wife a couple of friends and the youngest grandson enjoyed a 20-mile ride along the river and around a game preserve. The ride ended with a very exhausted 10-year old and a baked potato/chili feed.

Being close to Canada we decided to cross the border. We get there and I whip out some ID, the grandson’s ID and Tom’s gives up his ID. The gals now inform us they didn’t bring any. Holy Poooo. Now we head for immigration. Not ours but the RCMP Types.

Thirty minutes later we are released and allowed to return to the USA. We even had to bring the wives back. The RCMP just doesn’t take requests. :D

We get back home, 2 hours later, unload the bikes from the trailer and go to dinner.

So now we are lounging around the house planning a bike ride for tomorrow when the electronic box starts it’s beeping BS. Other than low battery alarms it’s been quiet for quite a while.

I grab it off the dresser and the text says, “01: 12008 WOODLAND BEACH DR. BLKE NaO3F CHEF IN THE FOREST CAR IN THE WATER PPL STILL INSIDE CALL DISPATCH. 8:03PM 092405”

I grab the car keys, kiss the wife (don’t ever forget to do this), grab the portable out of the charger and head out the door. Into the car, start it, turn on the radio, lights and siren and down the road I go, time: 8:05pm.

At the same time I’m checking into service two other divers who live within a mile of me are also enroute. This is great, as we are the closest one’s to the scene except for our fireman team member who is on that area’s department.

We make it about 2/3 of the way on the roughly 8 mile trip when the “Fire Diver” hehehe, I couldn’t resist that one, (he’s the other Gary) gets on the air and says we can cancel as the vehicle is close but didn’t make it to the water.

This worked out well as Gary had to go right by the scene to get to the Fire Station. Sure shaved off about 5 minutes on the response times for fire/med.

OK, now we know we aren’t wanted so we shut down and go home. Time: 8:11pm.

The full load of adrenaline has to be tamed by the consumption of an ice-cold bottle of Hefeweizen with a slice of lemon. :D

Hey now! Careful on the Fire Diver comments!!!! I resemble that remark!!!!

It certainly seems as though it has been a slow summer for your team. It is difficult to believe, but we made it through a summer without a call in our primary response area. The temps spent much of the summer in the upper 80's and low 90's, the river was in great shape, and people miraculously stayed safe. I must admit that I like droughts in the summer. The river is in good shape which makes it great for boating, and the grass doesn't need cut.

Stay safe.

Hehehehe. Dan, I was refering to the burned up diver in the tree not a fireman diver. Every time I hear "fIRE DIVER" I have flashbacks to the joke.

I should keep my mouth shut but overall it has been a very quiet year so far. We had several early calls then it just died meaning nobody died.

The ice will be here soon enough. Mix that with all the fair weather transplants we have aquired this year and it could get interesting.

Fair Enough Gary!!!!

I just saw on the Pittsburgh news this morning that 2 boaters are missing on the Monongohela River. Apparently, they slammed their boat into a barge on the river. 2 were saved and 2 are missing. Southwest of our response area, but they indicated they were putting divers back in the water this morning to continue the search. Surprising for something to occur this time of year.

Good luck with the transplants.
