We had an interesting day.
First off we went on a fund raising bike ride in Bonners Ferry up near the Maple Leaf clan.
The wife a couple of friends and the youngest grandson enjoyed a 20-mile ride along the river and around a game preserve. The ride ended with a very exhausted 10-year old and a baked potato/chili feed.
Being close to Canada we decided to cross the border. We get there and I whip out some ID, the grandsons ID and Toms gives up his ID. The gals now inform us they didnt bring any. Holy Poooo. Now we head for immigration. Not ours but the RCMP Types.
Thirty minutes later we are released and allowed to return to the USA. We even had to bring the wives back. The RCMP just doesnt take requests.
We get back home, 2 hours later, unload the bikes from the trailer and go to dinner.
So now we are lounging around the house planning a bike ride for tomorrow when the electronic box starts its beeping BS. Other than low battery alarms its been quiet for quite a while.
I grab it off the dresser and the text says, 01: 12008 WOODLAND BEACH DR. BLKE NaO3F CHEF IN THE FOREST CAR IN THE WATER PPL STILL INSIDE CALL DISPATCH. 8:03PM 092405
I grab the car keys, kiss the wife (dont ever forget to do this), grab the portable out of the charger and head out the door. Into the car, start it, turn on the radio, lights and siren and down the road I go, time: 8:05pm.
At the same time Im checking into service two other divers who live within a mile of me are also enroute. This is great, as we are the closest ones to the scene except for our fireman team member who is on that areas department.
We make it about 2/3 of the way on the roughly 8 mile trip when the Fire Diver hehehe, I couldnt resist that one, (hes the other Gary) gets on the air and says we can cancel as the vehicle is close but didnt make it to the water.
This worked out well as Gary had to go right by the scene to get to the Fire Station. Sure shaved off about 5 minutes on the response times for fire/med.
OK, now we know we arent wanted so we shut down and go home. Time: 8:11pm.
The full load of adrenaline has to be tamed by the consumption of an ice-cold bottle of Hefeweizen with a slice of lemon.
