I've done the shark dive at Guadalupe as part of a scientific trip there in 2005 to satellite tag the sharks... and dive with them here off Catalina as well without a cage (of course they see me, but I usually don't see them!).

Even within the cages there is potential danger as I've had several friends go down on different trips and have the GWs go right through the cage. Of course if they were really the cold blooded killers portrayed in "Jaws," they would already have taken out a number of us since most of the cages are more psychological barriers than real ones for a powerful GW.
