I have a fear of absoloutly NOTHING, except maybe spiders. But when it comes to athletic activities-NOTHING. I welcome the challenge of someting new as long as I can make it happen. Enough about me, lets analyze your situation. There are cases in my opinion that you could find instances of fear of you heights. For example some sharp drops or cliffs that you could possibly swim over (think Finding Nemo). This is most likely going to be in oceans but could be found in certain lakes. Vertigo does and can happen while diving, I have personally experienced it as well as others I know. Now lets put things in perspective, once in the water you will notice that, NO you wont fall to your doom. You will simply float (be it at the surface or at depth). However any realization you make of any situation the best thing you can do is get GREAT training, not good but GREAT! There is no substitution for a well trained and experienced person no matter the activity. Scuba, skydiving, racecar driving mtn bike racing. This is a WONDERFUL sport that for me racing BMX, Mtn bikes and bi/tri athalons as a younger man has been a serene relaxing alternative that still brings leagues of excitgement. Welcome to ScubaBoard and to a great exciting sport.
Remember there is no substitute for great training.
