Hi everyone,

I need to know, in your area, does PADI REQUIRE your facility to submit air analysis every quarter...

what "encouragements" are there in your state (apart from on your honor) that ensure that a facility will get their air analyzed.

If you are not with PADI - what regs do you have with your agency?

WCB and government aside - looking for direction that comes from the agency...

thanks, folks!!!!

NAUI requires quarterly testing as well. You can find the info on the NAUI website (www.NAUI.org) under Quality Assurance in the Affiliate section.

PADI requires 5 star and above, facilities to submit air tests quarterly to maintain thier 5 star rating.

But point of clearification: there are PADI affiliated shops and there are shops that offer PADI programs, (I am sure samey, same with other agencies) PADI has no control over a shop that is out there, just teaching PADI courses. Once the shop becomes a PADI affiliated facility then PADI can set and enforce quality standards on that shop to ensure they adhere to expected levels of performance. But all that will happen if the shop slacks off on the standards PADI sets is that they lose thier 5 star rating and the extra benefits of having had that rating.

From the PADI Instructor Manual, IRRA Membership standards:

The compressed air must be analyzed quarterly and records must be maintained. The compressed air must meet local scuba diving air quality and testing standards. If no local standards exist, the compressed air must meet the Compressed Gas Association (CGA), Table 1, Level E Standards for Scuba Diving Air. Air analysis reports must be submitted to PADI upon request.

I've seen the PADI rep check them when he comes in the store.

regardless of whether PADI do or not (which I believe they do) Irish regulation states it must be done.

Ours is done once a month i think...Best air in town :D

I know my LDS regularly tests their air and sends the results off to PADI. I presume they are compelled to do so, but I am quite certain they would any way.

Thank you - just for clarification - they actually have to SUBMIT?

IRRA 5* standards for Canada require testing only, and are "spot-checked" (never)..

thanks for your input!!!

Ok, here's the situation:

I know that PADI standards state that facilities MUST have quarterly analysis, and the merits of doing so..

But what I need help with, is whether or not in your state, does PADI or your agency actually require SUBMISSION of the analysis...

In BC, there has recently been a chronic contamination, affecting instructors and possibly hundreds of students. My team of instructors are now putting pressure on PADI to change back to their former standard of actually requiring submission, rather than "on your honor", and spot checks (which never happened for years..)

Not trying to be picky, and I appreciate all responses, but just a clarification on what I'm after. Can't believe we even have to fight for this, but even after several people were seriously injured....it needs to be done to protect all.

Thanks again for all your help.
