Ok I haven't posted much on this board so I'll post this now. I am thinking of taking the Professional Store and Resort Instructor 14 wk course at Halls Diving center. Now I will tell you up front, I am not that experienced in Diving, only done it a few times, but I love the sport. I just got out of the rmy and they are willing to pay for the course as "retraining" a full ride. That means I won't have to pay seperately for all the different certifications, or any of my equipment. I don't intend on being an Instructor for quite awhile, no use in teaching somethign when you don't have that much experience, but it will allow me to get a job with two of the local dive shops in my area in both the stores as well as on their trips. My question is what is the course like, how hard is it? I'm just a dumb grunt (11B infantry, and 19D Cavalry scout) and lets face it you don't have to be very smart for either job lol. I am concerned about the Math and the such. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Much thanks,
Travis

Travis,
Congrats on your aspirations however, IMO you should wait and get some dives under your belt first. You will not become rich working in a diveshop either. Just my opinion I am sure that others will chime in. I would have done it a long time ago however I decided not to spoil my hobby by making a career of it...

Not my intention to make it a career, least not for a few years til I have alot more diving experience under my belt, if ever, but this way I will have my certifications, as well as a complete set up without having to struggle for the next 3 years to afford it lol.

Welcome from a former 11B.

Go ahead and take the course - the intent is to teach from beginner without any dive experience. Hall's is as well-conected in the industry as any other school and will not graduate you (certifications) until you have fulfilled all requirements. And, Marathon, Florida is a great place to learn.

OIC sure in that case I would take advantage of it while it is being paid for.

Glad to see another Former Grunt here, I had heard that Hall's was a very good, and very thorough school, just wanted to make sure befor I got down and dirty with the VA about going there for my "retraining" I know I'm not gonna get rich, but never would have if the army hadn't booted me out either lol. Anyway thanks for your input Aleman!
