What's a "supper" diver? :eyebrow:

Someone who stands on a street corner in their dive gear, with a hand-written cardboard sign that says "Will Dive For Food" ...

... Bob (Grateful Diver)

Bob,
I thought that was a divemaster.... j/k

Why is everyone so angry? If it is so apparent that someone is regurgitating something they heard or made up, then ignore it. You never know, something amidst that garbage, may be something useful. It seems to be a seniority thing, you can't talk about a topic, only ask questions because it is impossible for you possibly know anything. As you may have guessed, I am a new diver. I won't preach anything as people without experience should'nt, but different perspectives on topics should be entertained. Here is an example of where I am coming from. Here on Long Island, we have low overpasses that 18 wheelers cannot pass under and on occasion, one tries and gets stuck. One particular incident, they could'nt pull the truck loose. It was young kid that said to the emergency people "let the air out of the tires"! Well it worked. It worked without any prior rescue or mechanical experience, just common sense. So before you rag on new people, realize not all are spewing bs they have heard. Listen to opinions and decide what is the junk.

This is my rant, if you want to complain about something else, do it, in your own thread, don't hijack mine.

My point here was I am tired of seeing divers with less than 6 months expereince talking about dives they have no expereince in doing and going in what i believe to be way too fast in there training.

I know what you said, I replied to your rant, or should I shut up about that too!

Maybe we should just step outside and settle this. :eyebrow:

So are some of those newer divers (myself included) to take it that you are warning us about our thirst for knowledge and understanding and not getting in over our heads or is there a fear or concern about something else? I know (from what we have discussed before) you have been diving for a few years and have completed a few certs and are experienced in many ways of diving compared to the newbies, but without questioning and using the things we read/learn about (again here, from books, from diving (either doing or observing others) or from speaking to more experienced divers) to qualify our questions - how do we get the answers to the things that come up in our minds? What i mean is i could ask you about x, but we could have a 20 min discussion getting up to the answer if you try to explain the foundation of how to get there, which someone may have already told me, bypassing that part by using terminology and ideas that are expressed all over the place, typically shows an understanding of those ideas and allows the question to be answered. Yes one or two people do discuss things beyond their diving experience or skill level (again myself included), partly due to planning training, skills, reading, equipment purchases based upon common practices and whatnot that are discussed or researched again amongst the resources stated above of which SB is only a part. This tautological arguement could go on forever, you shouldnt know ....... at your stage, but you cant advance further when you are ready because no-one will discuss ..... with you.

Also, its almost de-rigeur, to have a thread taken off-topic somewhat, its already happened several times since the opening rant. ;) BTW, i appreciate your POV and your advice and experience those times i have spoken with you (in person or on here) and one day might appreciate a dive if you are ever free - sometimes i come across a little abrasive on some posts.

I'll be in florida in a week, where should we meet, should we duel. How about we swing regs like balls and chains, come on!!!!!

But I am not going to ruin my reg on you, how bout I donate you a bottle of O2 past 20'.

This should be another thread topic...how to get rid of your dive buddy that you are not happy this.

Hope you know I am just kidding. I wish you no harm, just don't speed while you are in Florida.

Listen, I know, I was just having fun with this. My exceptionally boring afternoon at work has become quite fun! I mean no offense to anyone and apologize if I have done this to you.
