Just a slight clarification. At BDA (next to the Sand Dollar) the boats return to the dock after each dive to get fresh tanks. At Divi the boat stays out for the two tank morning dive. I am beginning to believe that there is a real mold problem in the building at the Divi which I stayed in. It is the one near the dive shop.

I got mixed reports on Captain Don's. One fellow hated it, but a couple of gals traveling together thought it was great. Some people told me the Plaza was the best place on the Island.

I must agree that Chateau Lake Louise is completely awesome. Expensive, but worth it.

Hi, Billfish1

We stayed at the Divi in April 03 and dove with their house op. The two buildings nearest the dive shop houses their timeshare units and many of them are quite dated and rustic (the ones they have not renovated as of yet). We stayed in one of these timeshare units for the week. While there, we did get a look at one of the “hotel” type rooms and they are much newer and brighter. We didn’t get to see these rooms until later in the week, had I seen them earlier I would have asked to change rooms. The on-site dive op is very good, we also had the pleasure of diving with Pepe all week (an excellent DM with a great sense of humor).

We also stayed at the Plaza in October 03. The Plaza may be the nicest “resort” on the island but it is also a bit dated, but not as old as the timeshare units at the Divi. We stayed in a grand suite facing to ocean, the room was large, clean and very comfortable. We did not get to see any other types of rooms within the resort but in speaking to other guests we understand that all rooms seem to be of similar quality. The on-site op is Toucan Diving, very much the same as Divi Dive, both have large boats, gear storage and excellent service (btw Leadweight , Annouk video taped one of our group’s dives).

Aside from the timeshare units, we found the two resorts to be fairly comparable. I’d give the edge to the Plaza as it’s a notch more upscale, but if we go do back again we would probably stay at the Divi in one of their “hotel” type rooms mainly because it is an easier walk to town.
