Finally got some info on the new housing for the Canon G2 from OceanBrite. Sounds like they'll be custom-made by Equinox, with a basic version only supporting on/off, zoom, and shutter for $500. If you want any additional controls (i.e. arrow controls, menu buttons, etc.) you'll need to contact them with info on exactly what you want and they'll provide you with a quote. Have no idea how much it would cost to have them make a housing that will support most of the G2's functionality. I can only guess, but I'm thinking the extra cost would likely take it into the same neighborhood as the Ikelite housing. The new housing is rated to 150ft and has a 3yr warranty. 7W x 6 H x 5 D Weight: 2.4lbs.
I just got the info today, and thought I'd share it with the fellow G2 owners looking for an alternative housing. Personally, after hearing this, I'm starting to lean towards the Ikelite option. At least that one is more or less a known quantity; I've heard some good reports from the few users of that housing out there, plus excellent reports about Ikelite's service in general. For those still interested, PM me with an e-mail address and I'll try to send you the MSWord flyer I got from OceanBrite. I don't think I can just attach it to a message here. OceanBrite doesn't seem to have the flyer anywhere on their web page yet, otherwise I would've posted the link, but they e-mailed me a copy when I asked for info on the new housing. Hope this was helpful. Cheers!
