So now I'll mention another of my favorite dive sites in Roatan, but it's a different kind of favorite.

In 2009, an earthquake hit Roatan. The damage wasn't huge, but there was one dive site that was deeply affected: Anka's Place. (Located near CocoView and Fantasy Island) This was a beautiful wall with an overhang section filled with cool things to look at. The day of the earthquake, the whole overhang, including the wall, went tumbling down onto the ocean floor.

We arrived at Fantasy Island one week after that tragic event. Our divemaster and friend, Daren, took us over to inspect the damage. It was incredible. The whole wall was...GONE. In it's place was a blank slate. Just a whole "new" wall of...NOTHING. It looked like bare sand.

Since that time, we have made it a point to go back and visit Anka's Place on every trip, just so we can monitor what it's like to see the reformation of a reef. It's been a really cool process. With each visit we see more and more cool stuff growing on the wall.

I just got back. We stayed in West End but did most of our dives on the south side due to weather. Anka's place was my favorite dive (although I don't have a lot to compare). Can't wait to go back.

You just made my day

You are very fortunate you were able to dive the south side even though you stayed in West End!

Great shots! The wreck is called "El Aguila". When we first dove her in 2001 with AKR, she was still fairly intact. The storms have done a number on her since then, but still a great dive :)

I like Blue Channel the most for small stuff.

Great pix Beluga, Blue Channel is a classic with great topography and as shown little stuff too. I'm amazed at what you found there! Looks like you'd be fun to dive with! Most of my West End favs have been mentioned already but I'll add two: Green Outhouse Wall and what I'll call Hole in the Wall shallow. I'm not sure if it was just a good day but we had a great morning dive at Green outhouse and on my birthday Ricky from Seagrape showed us a different way to dive HItW. Since it was our afternoon dive we skipped the deep hole and spent most of the dive going through the myriad of swim throughs and caverns in the shallows. The dive is a stone's throw from Seagrape and so this was literally Ricky's back yard while growing up. He knows it like the back of his hand and has an eye for little stuff. A great dive with a great DM.

One night last March, at one of the PVC swimthrough obstacles between the Prince Albert and the CCV Front Yard.
