This may reflect my ignorance and long absence from diving, but here goes anyway:

Is the quick disconnect fitting on the BC end of inflator hoses a universal type, or are they different among different brands of BCs?

I have an inflator hose that I used with a Dacor BC in the eighties and plan to recondition the regulator set-up, but will be using a new SeaQuest Latitude XLT BC.

Do I need to find a replacement fitting to connect to the BC inflator?

Almost all inflators use a standard (626) fitting. It's the octo/inflators that are different and there are about 3 or 4 different varieties you could encounter.

Thanks! I have been away for so long that I did not know what had or had not changed.

The plain inflators (no integrated second stage) are pretty much all the same. The combination inflators/alternate second stage all use different connectors (I've see two or three), but AFAIK, all come with an appropriate hose, so it's not an issue.

It was in the mid to late 1980's when copanies finally started standardizing the BC QD fitting (the one they use now is almost exactly yhe same as the once used by Watergil.)

Consequently, depending on exactly when you got you inflator, you may or may not need a new inflator and hose.

I have found the Dive Rite fitting to be somewhat larger in diameter than other makes. As a result, only a Dive Rite hose will work. This is absolutely true for the Venture wing but I don't know about other DR wings.

I have tried a DSS hose and an Oceanic hose and neither fit. Bummer...

At some point it is probably worth changing the K valve (inflator) so that other regulator sets can be used without requiring a change of hoses. What a PITA!

You made me look. I use SP LPIs but have a couple DR and one Oxycheq in the spares. I found one USD LPI hose that would not fit Oxycheq and one the of the DR LPIs. I checked almost 12 hoses and that was the only hose that would not work on all my inflators.

The SeaQuest Latitude XLT User Manual sounds like the inflator hose comes with the vest, so that it will simply be a matter of removing the former and installing the new on the LP port of my 1st Stage, even if the connectors are not the same.

Thanks to all for the discussion.

I occassionally get a reg for service that will have a hose that won't fit the QD on the test bench, but it is rare and I usually chalk it up to loose manufacturing tolerances.

If DR intentionally makes a slightly larger QD fitting, they will end up being the big loser when people figure out they cannot easily switch to a different hose. Consequently, I suspect it is also the case of loose tolerances, or perhaps and extra run through the plating process.

I don't think it is a DR thing. Their LPI looks like the standard LPI used by so many of the wing manufacturers.
