One word of caution. Midwesterners that come to visit usually don't want to leave...

I forgot to mention that you might want to make motel reservations now if you're planning to spend the night in Monterey since that's a holiday weekend and rooms tend to go fast and skyrocket in price the closer it gets. Have fun...:)

I have a husband and sons to go back home to and while I will probably fall in love with the area (as my girlfriend assures me I will), I have the three best reasons in the world to return home safely.

As for accommodations, I am fortunate enough to be staying with my "bestest friend" who just moved to PG at the end of May, but I suppose I should probably reserve my rental car now, just to be on the safe side.

One more question since I don't own a wetsuit: do most of the shops in the area rent wetsuits? If not, I may have to just buckle down and either rent a 7mm from my LDS or break down and buy one, since Great Lakes diving is reportedly the same temp as Monterey Bay (50's F).

You can, in fact, rent wetsuits/drysuits from any of the Monterey dive shops. That'll save you from buying one and lugging it halfway across the country. However, if you're going to be diving often enough at home, you may want to invest in one now.

LOL! I'm ugly enough to scare Fred away. If he's still pesters me, I'll just have to put on my angry-mommy face and tell him to go away in a not-so-sweet manner.
