Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone has ever done a shore dive from Indian Rocks beach. Wife and I would like to do a quick shore dive just to get wet, practice some skills and be home with most of the day left. We don’t have to see much to be happy. More concerned with safety and all of that. We have dove Fred Howard park and couple times and had fun but just wanted to try something a little different. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I went for a dive off Indian Rocks Beach last week (7/19/24). I was hoping to find a nice shore dive close to home and was disappointed. According to the Pinellas County artificial reef program, North Inshore Reef 9 (and 8) should be about 600 feet off shore directly out from 22nd Ave N. My buddy and I swam out and back 1000 feet along the bottom, and it was just flat, unremarkable sand bottom. It appears that this portion of the artificial reef has been covered by all the sand from the beach replenishment projects.

This info is only for these 2 artificial reef sites. Others may be thriving (and I’d like to know of any that are).
