We are going to be at Atlantis. Where is the easiest place to get some Diving in. We are beginners for the most part with less than 20 dives. We want some simple shallow dives, maybe 30ft max. Just looking to have some fn and maybe meet some cool people.

Anyone in the area or have some reccomendations?

Thanks!

There's no shore diving so your options are Stuart Cove's or Bahamas Divers. BD is right at the base of the bridge going to Paradise Island, Stuart Cove's is on the south side of New Providence - but they'll pick you up there. There's also a private charter option, if interested lmk, and I'll find their name.

The Thunderball Reef - from the movie - is only about 25' deep. People snorkle there sometimes.

Any advice on which operation is better? Also it looks like the Thunderball reef might be shpre divable a only 5-25ft, whats the best way to get there?

Nope, never dove with either one. There are a lot more good/bad comments on the board about Stuart Cove's though.

By Boat only, it could be a mile out. And there's usually sharks in the area. Maybe I was misleading in my previous post, it's really shallow, just not close offshore. I think I've read here somewhere that there's no shore diving off New Providence, the reef is too far out.

Stuart Coves is a great op, I had my best dive ever with them.

If you want to get over your unrational fear of sharks, do the shark dive and you will be cured.

:no Hey now... who said its unrational? Ah....im sure it is. Wife wants to do it, I dont. We shall see, we will probably do it. How is the vis down there in the Bahamas? I hear you have to watch out for Tigers lie crazy down there...thats scary stuff.

It is cause the chances of getting attacked while diving are infitesimally small, there is a whole list of other bad things that are more likely to happen to you.

The vis is great, the best Ive ever seen.

what was that about the tigers? didnt understand.

Tiger Sharks. Real dangerous I heared. Hey have you seen "INto the Blue"? Great movie all about diving in Bahamas.

Any shark can be dangerous, given the proper set of circumstances. Now, having said that, I must admit to having dove with a great many sharks, and my tiger shark dive encounter with a liveaboard out of West Palm Beach was quite simply unforgettable. Now, those people set that up carefully, and had a lot of experience with this, but still, a real tiger shark looking at me from 6 feet away without a cage...migawd! Lord, those things are beautiful. Anyway, I guess what I am trying to say is that shark diving is fairly common, and the risks are minimal if you just use common sense and watch what you are doing. Check out the shark forum here for a LOT more information on this subject, and don't let contact with sharks scare you away from what could be a really memorable experience. Woody
