I'm done with scubadiving. I'm quitting this because I found out that I have a heart murmur after my physical exam here in Indiana last week. I don't have any problem with my heart but the EKG showed early sign! I'm kinda distraughted and can't deal without scubadiving or snubadiving in Oahu. BUT I still keep the scuba diving stuff at my sister who lives in Pearl City as in case my heart is OK with Dr.'s approval. I would love to meet you in person and chat / have fun scubadiving. Damn, I'm so upset right now and cried a lot. I will keep you posted about me. I want to keep my name on ScubaBoard. Because it is fun to read and write with scubadiving friends.

God Bless You all!

Hey KJ,

Lots of people dive with heart problems. Listen to your physician and stay well! Hopefully the joys of getting wet will be yours again in the not too distant future. Until then you will be in hearts and prayers.

BTW, I am NOT a medical doctor... I fix sick networks. :D

I recommend contacting DAN (Divers Alert Network) and seeing if you can get a referral to a physician with diving experience. Many physicians are unfamiliar with the physiological issues assoicated with diving and may recommend no diving as a precaution. I have always found it beneficial to have my Doc involved in the same activity as me.

Good luck and I hope that you find that the condition doesn't prevent you from diving.

From one Hawaii lover to another.....

Sorry to hear you'll be out of the water - at least temporarily!

You might want to contact your local (or not so local!) hyperbaric/diving professional and talk about the results and what they mean for you. Sometimes there are positives that will get you diving again that a non-diving/hyperbaric Dr might not be aware of.

For NetDoc, thank you for the prayers. I didn't know that the scubadivers have heart problem. But that's true that I have to halt my scubadiving and snubadiving from my dr's recommend.

Thank you and I appreciate for the prayers! But I'm very disappointed. Can't survive without the water splash on me. But I still can swim, anyway in 3 feet deep.

Take care,
Kj

As was suggested, call DAN and get their input. Many doctors will restrict your diving simply because they just don't know. It's far easier for them to say "no" rather than find out what is appropriate, when they may not know where to even begin. Call the guys at DAN, and if need be, get your Doc to call them. The consult is free and it might just get you back in the water!

I'm really sorry to hear about your heart condition. Please do give DAN a call to see what they say. Please get a second opinion from a doctor who knows about diving.

If you're not able to dive anymore there are other things to do as a hobby or sport. Please keep that in mind.

Good luck,

Randy

Hi all, thanks for the message. I never thought about DAN, so I will ask my doctor about that. But I'm with my step daughter to dive as she is an certificated scuba instructor. Good thing she can help me if I say SOS. I hope I can go back to Hawaii soon from the mainland to go diving but have to wait till my dr's OK for me to go. I have to spend the holidays with my family.

Thank you very much for the thoughtful!

:)

Take care,
Kj

Heart murmurs are not necessarily that serious, I don't think? I'd certainly consult DAN, a local dive physician if you can find one, and - SB's own medical advisers.

This would work much better on Dive Medicine, I think, and I have asked a Mod to move it there.

Good luck!
