First time on this ScubaBoard. Been on 3 dive trips since getting certified in April of '04. Getting geared up for another trip in April of '06 with my girlfriend. We are trying to figure out where to go this time. She and I both want to go somewhere new this time. We have been to Cozumel and Grand Turk together and she has also been to Bonaire, Honduras, and Aruba. We were discussing St.Croix... but we are open to any other suggestions for a great dive destination with oceanfront/on the beach accommodations, good food, and maybe a little hiking and shopping. We loved Grand Turk. Stayed at the Osprey Hotel and it was awesome! It had only 27 rooms/ renovated and nice and had AC, wireless Internet, great restaurant and bar onsite and the dive boat picked us up right on the shore in front our hotel. :)
Thanks for your help everyone!
Jenn

Welcome to the board. Have you thought about Cayman Brac? or Costa Rica?

I would suggest Ambergrise Caye as a place that has a lot of what you are looking for, but a little different than what you are used to. Not generally a place with A/C and wireless Internet, however great diving, interesting shopping, good food and lots to do re day trips to the mainland. We stayed at a mid range hotel overlooking the "beach" not really a beach, but from the hotel we could see the outer edge of the barrier reef. There are more upscale spots which may be more what you are looking, but my general impression is that they are a bit out of town and I would prefer to be closer to town.

Quite similar to the Cosumel of 15 years ago. Have not been since so I am only guessing that it has changed alot since I was there.

I would give Belize City a pass if you do go.

Placencia is also nice. The beach is better, there is a great hotel Roberts Grove. The reef is much further out however so you are on the boat a minimum of 60 min out and 60 min back to get to the dive sites. The town feels like a refugee from the 60's. Great food so so shopping and if you go inland be prepared to be bitten by flying insects of various flavours.

Welcome from a Lakewood/Long Beach CA Realtor.

May I suggest Catalina California - shopping, sun, beaches, hiking, and great diving. Or how about Laguna Beach CA or Malibu CA? Or a nice 3 day live aboard out of Long Beach to Catalina, Anacapa, San Clemente or Santa Barbara Island?
Some photos (most from California) to wet your whistle.
