What are the must do sites? I plan to bring my dive yak and do as much shore diving as possible. Wreck Alley too! I tried to get on a shark dive, but they seemed prety booked up.

Please give me your thoughts.

If you have transportation and some time take the 21/2 hour drive to ensenada and dive La Bufadora with Dale @ their only local dive shop. Not to mention it's very cheap to dive with them and they have great service.

Great stuff and mexico is a great short weekend getaway. In San Diego be sure to hit La jolla cove if the red tide has passed by then

Check out the La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Shores... Wreck Alley and Los Coronados... If you have GPS I can give you some coordinates for the pinnacles off La Jolla Cove which are great dives... You have to launch at La Jolla Boat Launch, but it's an easy paddle out there... You could also dive Scripps canyon... It's really a matter of how ambitious you want to be :)

Check out this site for San Diego shore diving info:

The La Jolla boat laundh divebuddysean mentioned is at La Jolla Shores. You can park right on the beach and set everything up. From there, you can paddle to Boomers, Hospital Point, etc. You can also shore dive at those areas, but it will be nicer out on your boat. You can also do a drift dive along the La Jolla canyon walls. South wall and the north/way north walls are great. Scripps Canyon is a short paddle, as divebuddysean mentioned, just keep in mind that they don't want you to tie off to the down buoy. You can also launch your kayak at Mission Beach and get to wreck alley.

Looks like you are driving from northern California on Sunday, July 21. Going to stop for a kayak dive before you get to San Diego County?
