If you were going to be in Atlanta on business and had an extra day for the Gulf...

You'll spend about $140 in gas driving to Panama City (round trip), $8 entrance fee, and whatever tanks, fills and gear rentals will costs.

I think you can dive the Atlanta Aquarium for $225 or so. That includes gear, and guarantees good viz and whale sharks. That might be the better bet.....

I believe you are thinking of their "Swim Program" as the dive is $325+tax. Although, I agree - for a day trip is probably a little more reasonable option and a lot of fun

There are two of us so that changes the fuel vs. aquarium cost equation a bit. On top of which I can't pass as a mermaid so they probably don't want me scaring the tourists. The drive back and forth is fine with me as I can head down in an evening and be good to go in the morning. Both suggested sites sound similar from the description at Shore Diving so I guess I'll flip a coin. (If my wife reads the note about the Bull Shark at Destin I suspect I'll be going to Panama City.)

Just found another post about St. Andrews being closed for dredging. Hello Destin. Does the Bull Shark have a name?

Worry more about the walk of shame than the bull shark. I've done maybe 20 dives at the Destin Jetties, and only once has there been a shark (a sandbar shark, that left before I could see him but my buddy got some vid)

The walk of shame is the 300+ yard trudge through the softest sand in Florida, that lies between the water and the road. Not fun to do this in a dry wetsuit during the Summer months ;-)

It would be a lot cooler if you were going to be in Miami on business. (Sorry for the useless reply but I was just thinking.)

MapQuest shows it's 5-1/2 hours to PCB from Atlanta and 4 hours to Savannah. I know it's not the Gulf, but what kind of diving is available in the Savannah area?
