I'm a Fish!
A friend of mine and I are trying to find somewhere to meet and dive. I live in Atlanta and she lives in Amherst, VA (near Lynchburg). I have to believe there is probably some kind of decent quarry or springs somewhere relatively in the middle of the two of us, but I've no idea. So I thought I'd open up the question to the board, and see if I could get some help here.

We both dive dry/doubles, so I would say that we'd - well, I'll speak for myself - *I* would prefer to stay away from places like 40 Fathom that require a lot of hauling those doubles up and down steps.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I would suggest Lake Jocassee Close to Seneca SC.
It is 119 miles from Atlanta to Jocassee. here is the link to the dive shop at Jocassee Lake Jocassee Dive Shop, Salem, SC near Greenville
they have dive charters to some of the dive sights on the lake ,you can all so dive of the divers ramp the shop can give you directions . You can talk to Brandon or Bill (the owner) they will help you out . I can't say if there is anything farther out of Atlanta . but I don't think you will regret diving Jocassee

hop on NC Divers forum, will probably get a lot better help from the guys in the Charlotte area

GMTA! I don't have an account on ncdivers so she is posting on there, while I'm posting here on Scubaboard. Thanks for the thought!

Yes I really like Lake Jocassee. Especially the heated boat/'only stairs are getting on the boat' part :D! We are looking for something a bit more equal between us, though (Lake Jocassee would be about 6 hours for her, 2 hours for me - would be fine by me but no so much for her :dontknow:)

I try to keep an eye an Brandon/Bill's facebook page to see if they are running the boat on weekends I'm available. I definitely want to get out there this spring!

Thanks for the idea!

The diver's ramp dive (off to the left of the ramp) at Jocassee is a great dive too! Diving in a full standing forest is way cool. Doubles work too as you can be below 150' fairly quickly if you choose or cruise the tree tops at 80'.
