I'm going to be diving in Bonaire and figured it would be smart (and probably always a smart idea) to dive with some identification on me.

Do others carry ID with them? If so do they put it in something (zip lock? ID Holder?).

thanks

J

I punched a hole in an old ID badge and zip tied it to my BC.

I have not found any need to carry ID in Bonaire while diving. But their coins will rust and they are not particularly happy with wet bills. I tried the "waterproof" plastic bags and don't believe I had one make it through a full day of diving. A small waterproof plastic box seems to work OK. With a safe place to keep $$$, you can stop at the store or Rose Inn on the way back from diving.

I need to see if I can find an old ID.

As for not carrying an ID, it's more for safety reasons rather than "needing one".

thanks

I just returned from Bonaire and if you mean to keep your licenses, credit cards, money, and keys... I used the Kwik Tek Dry Pak and it worked well for me.... At first I strapped it down on my harness but since a friend was diving with a BC, she kept it in one of the pockets...

I got one at a lds but here is a link to amazon...

Get a Witz case. Holds ID, CC, car/room key (no keyring) and a few bills. Has a lanyard to secure it around your neck or on a d-ring etc.

They sell several different ones for under $10. I've had the same one for at least 5 years now and it's always dry. IIRC I first used it on Bonaire.

My wife, daughter and I have a DAN tag attached to our respective BCs.
It contains emergency contact informatinon & DAN information.
A portion of the purchase price goes to support DAN's life-saving activities.

DAN Divers Alert Network : Product Catalog : DAN Tag

I used to keep ID, etc. in a dry box in my gear bag either on the boat or shore then let my buddies know where it was in case of emergency.

Going forward I plan to purchase a dog tag type pendant and have my name, DAN #, and my insurance carrier's name and policy # engraved on it. I worry that in an emergency, I will be evacuated but there's a very good chance that no one is going to even think to grab my gear bag or take the time to find my wallet. I also believe that there is a certain respect given to bodily worn ID (like dog tags) and that rescuers will cut you out of every stitch of clothing you have on but will leave the tag hanging around your neck.
