That's true? I hope.

In August 2007, I was in Iceland and I saw that watching whales for tourists is much more popular that hunting!

Looking at from an econonical point of view: Its not a viable industry. The outlay of expenses don't justify the cost of it.

Interesting observations. Lack of consumer interest will (hopefully) finish off Japan's whaling fleet. It also seems that the Green Alternative will be the whale watching industry.

that's great.

let's celebrate!

I saw those whale ships in Reykjevik...big bloody killing machines, I'll never forget it.

One step forward for mankind

You have been pretty constant on this issue--thanks for all you do

Great news! Wish we could get humans to stop killing other humans, too.

The Hindu are still waiting for the rest of the world to stop killing Cows....

This would not be a bad thing. Global greenhouse emissions would tumble.

Cows in India are not all that "sacred". They are respected and celebrated as a symbol of giving. However, cows are typically left to fend for their own in some of the worst environmental conditions I have ever seen. Same goes for other critters I ran across in India.

Back to the thread – Iceland’s cessation of whaling is cause for celebration. A toast to everyone here on SB who has advocated the end of whaling! :D This development will positively affect the 2008 Whaling Commission meetings.

Cheers,

Somewhat akin to closeing the barn door after everythings been sent too the slaughterhouse but good news anyway. For a comprehensive overview of the atrocities committed by humanity see Farley Mowat's "Sea of Slaughter".
