Can anyone please point me to a place for a good rate for these resorts for December ??

thanks

I find that better deals are to found 2-3 months before departure. Where you coming from? Charter flights and room packages may be better suited depending where you're originating. For us living in Houston, we have Continental running direct daily flights which usually turns out to be the best route. We've found good deal through expedia.com where there were specials on the hotel with AI package. You just have to check all the resellers like expedia, orbitz, travelocity as well as the airlines expecially if one hubs in you town. There are some aggregators like kyak.com but I find them to be unreliable, aggravating and inaccurate.

We stayed there last year.. This year we are renting our own place. Wont ever be going back to one of those places again.

I dont like the food.
I dont drink so all inclusive alcohol means nothing to me.
They never have any soda I would drink so I end up having to buy my own anyways.
They close the pool at night when you would rather hang out in a pool.
Too far from town.

Rent a house and enjoy your trip more.. unless you are into the "Resort" lifestyle.
We happen to go to cozumel to dive and really only to dive.

any suggestions on rentals? we're looking at Cozumel but figured the cheapest was vacation package with all-inclusive. We don't drink either but having all the food is nice.

This all depends on what your looking for in a trip to Cozumel. If you want to stay in one place and eat marginal food that MOST, not all as I have heard, do buffet style food then the AI works. Now, there are some higher end AIs that are good but you said cheapest so I wont go there. We have been going to Coz for over 10 years. Did the AI route the first time and never again. We prefer the southern dive sites so we always stay on south side of island and we actually enjoy the drive to town almost every night buy we have many rest. that we really enjoy on the island. There are many great places to eat that you dont have to pay tourist prices if you know where to go. I am at work and dont have all my links but if you send me a pm with your email address I will be glad to send you some condo rental sites that can offer great values. We stay at Residencias Reef in one bedroom for under $100 night and rent a car/jeep for our 10 day stays. Many dont want to do that which makes staying on the south side more of a hassle to some. Also, Fiesta Americana is south but not too far south. Its a 60 peso ride to town for two each way.

All-inclusive is probably cheaper if you drink much. Otherwise I'm not so sure. You would need to do the math. My wife and I have done both. We drank a lot more with the all-inclusive but otherwise keep it pretty light, maybe two or less beers each with lunch and dinner. Without AI you also may have cab fares to consider, which will vary greatly depending on how far south you are. Still, with the numerous great and inexpensive restaurants on the island, I think our last trip was the cheapest of the 5, and the first non-AI (stayed at Blue Angel).

Blue Angel gave us a package that included breakfast every day, plus lunches on dive days, which were very good. We saved a lot there because we dove almost every day. And, eating in town nightly was a fun and tasty experience. We were there 10 days and still have a few more restaurants we would like to try next time!

Booked for the Grand in June for December. It was $1000 cheaper than 2008 and was the same price for our stay at the Allegro (Diamond) in 1994!

We went to the Iberostar once and found that the beach and the resort layout was inferior to that at the Grand and Allegro.

We have used Dive Palancar since 1994 for our stays at the Grand and Allegro.

The Iberostar dive shop was adequate, and we had two very professional divemasters.

If you want to be picked up by another dive boat from town, there is no problem at the Allegro or Grand. I am not sure about the Iberostar. The choice is yours.
