Cozumel is known for ‘crimes of opportunity’. I wouldn’t leave out anything that could have easy value for a quick sale. I doubt anyone will take my ratty rash guards and stinky socks - but that’s about all I’d leave unattended. I love Cozumel, but you still have to be cautious about your belongings.

I am not advising anyone to do anything in particular; I am just saying that in my experience theft has not been a problem for me in going to Cozumel for over 40 years. If you stay in a theft prone area (I don't), of course more vigilance is prudent. My experience is no more or less universal than yours.

This is a common practice, and it can make a significant difference; it's why when I encounter it I pay in pesos I get from an ATM.

Agreed. That would have been the right choice, but the ATM onsite was down due to an earlier power outage.

Dressel is a volume based dive OP. Most of your "quibbles" are easily avoidable by choosing a different, more boutique, dive op. You will also be allowed to dive your tanks and won't be on a cattle boat.

Yes, I agree. Definitely a consideration for a future visit.

Thanks for the report! Very thorough and helpful for anyone thinking of going with Iberostar and/or Dressel.

I’m curious about whether the room and overhead had fan and if there was a place to hang gear while drying. If we’re diving with neoprene I really like to get it dry before the next day if possible. And how comfortable were the beds?

The room did have an overhead fan. However, it had a motion detector which turned off the AC and fan if the room was empty. The dive shop area had a couple of rooms with fans and hangers for drying gear. Some other divers we spoke with brought portable drying racks to dry items in the room.
