Thank You, to all who responded.

make sure she has a opportunity to learn to navigate underwater. my male buddies often assume that role -- possibly because it's one of my weaknesses! but there's no improvement without practice.

happy diving!

All very good ideas. Beast and I got certified together. I made him promise me that he would allow me to be independent of him. We didn't even buddy together for our OW class. I don't carry the idependence so far as to turn down the offer to carry my tanks, though! ;^)

We made it a point to trade out leading dives, navigating, dive planning, etc. Because of this I was comfortable in my skills and felt an equal partner, not a tag-a-long he had to take care of. That confidence also led to me becoming a divemaster. We did that training together as well. I work just as many classes without him as I do with him.

One of my pet peeves is buddy positioning. Someone mentioned her being off your hip. I want my buddy to be by my side if at all possible. We can see each other out of our periferal vision and it's only a simple turn of the head to communicate. If a buddy is to my side in my blind spot or behind me, I have to look under my arm to the back or stop and turn around to see them. That interrupts the whole flow!

Just give her the opportunity to be independent, and be prepared if she starts depending on you for the really important stuff, ie. navigating, dive planning, etc.

Just my 2¢

OK, now let's get this straight. It doesn't matter who's the more experienced, better trained, or more resourceful diver. She's still right, and if the guy is lucky, she might allow him to be a little independent.

Yes Dear
Right away Pumpkin
Your dive plan was wonderful
