Ok Ben..

What happened? I'm always interested. As a Harley Rider..having hit the pavement in 3 accidents.

You never could get all the details out of this kid. The last time he broke his shoulder and was laid up for about 3 months.
What compounds the problem is that we work together. He is one of my top technicians.

Andy he is coming up on 32. Isn't that the age when you are "all big"?

You do realize that riding a street bike is WAY more dangerous than diving to 1.8 PPO2.

yes, riding on the street is dangerous, especially because cars don't see you
and especially at intersections with cars turning left into you.

my steps to be safer include reading about the issues, taking the safety class, and trying to be as careful and visible as i can out there. also, for good measure, i carry a rabbit's foot, a St. Christopher medallion, and my lucky miniature edition of the Magna Carta.

I just had to say that after getting milding bashed about diving to 60-80 meters on air. haha Statistically, riding street bikes is way more dangerous. The danger is that cars and trucks, perhaps unconciously, don't look for you because you're smaller and won't hurt them in a crash. The best advice is to just pretend you're invisible. I would vernture to say that 70% of all people I know who rode street bikes were in a semi, to very serious accident. Some died. good luck, Hank

ok... i am a first time motorcycle buyer, newbie rider, and
am in the process of buying my first motorcycle.

Honda Rebel
Yamaha Yirago
Suzuki GZ250

after reading a ton of stuff, I am leaning towards the
Yirago.

Virago is a good choice. I rode Yamaha YZ's when I was growing up, and their bikes normally can take quite a bit.

Now I have an older 650 Nighthawk, but when I look at the Rebel it looks so tiny.

ok, well, i've taken delivery of the Alpha Sports V-Twin, in
silver, and a sweet looking machine it is. I took some pictures,
but they didn't come out well (the light was fading and the
flash played havok with the chrome).

however, here is a picture of me in my new leather jacket,
ready to ride.

it's amazing how much confidence just having the bike and a leather jacket has given me!

i can't wait to actually ride it

Congratulations! Enjoy the ride and welcome to the brotherhood.

And you know, you look JUST like the model at bikerleather.com where I got my jacket. ;)

I woudn't touch this post with a 10 foot leather thong...

Cruiser bikes..... Well there okay I guess, just limiting. Unless you just want to ride on straight long roads.

I prefer the sport bikes and at least a 600cc. I love the way you could knee drag on sport bikes, pop wheelies, endos, and take off if you have to.

But it all comes down to personal preference.

Why dont you go to a shop and sit on the bikes you are considering. You will find that the ergos on some bics are better than others.

Good luck
