Wow! So it wasn't exactly how I imagined trying one out but it worked... I rented one today to try out on a dive. Went down, rented my gear, headed up to the river... got all geared up... soooo much easier than fumbling with a stupid jacket BCD... and it was so much more comfortable... so off into the water I went... I figured that the back inflate would push me onto my stomach... I floated back on my back no problem... so when it was time for the dive, I let the air out and away I went... as soon as I started going down, the weight disappeared and it was like there was nothing there, it was easier to move around in and felt soooooo natural. Anyways, a couple of minutes into the dive and it was too cold to continue (I thought I could brave it without my vest/hood)... but the couple of minutes I tried the BP/W out it was way better than anything I had ever tried... I think I'm sold... I still need to do a full dive in one but I was really happy with it... Oh and BTW it was a Halcyon Eclipse with the Stainless BP and the weighted STA... VERY NICE!

If you like it now , wait till you do a full dive and practice some skills . EVEN BETTER .

But wait, you haven't tried the H.U.B.. What about the H.U.B.?

 But wait .. there's more call in the next ...

As some would say welcome to the dark side. But being serious you will truly enjoy the BP/W setup. And depending on your weighting requirements you can use SS, Al, or hard plastic backplates and your STA can be light or heavy.

I dive with a Dive Rite plastic plate and no weight with a 100 or 120 steel tank and full 3 mm suit. In my drysuit I use a SS plate and just wear 8 lbs on my weight belt to sink comfortably with my 7.5 mm neoprene drysuit.

It is also extremely easily to stay horizontial with a good BP/wing setup.

I've reciently taken students out for check outs in a wing and bp....they can remove and replace much faster and with no difficulty. Most are simply sold on the simplicity and comfort of the unit..

Excellent... *rubs hands together*

Methinks thou hast just had a sip. wait til you take a good long draught. When I first got mine i said that I would not sell my probe so that I could use it for classes as a DM. Ebay is beckoning me as my instructor is coming to the realization that this is not a passing thing with me. And if I can demo all the skills in it, why not use it? As Ron said, remove and replace is much faster and easier IMO. The gear exchange might be a little different if the other person is way different size but hey. I do have an older but fully serviceable seaquest ADV that I could use for those kinds of situations. And what I could get for the probe would pay for O2 cleaning my doubles and converting my regs to DIN
