Kat- What an awesome thing to say. I bet he is proud. I started diving back then to "hold on" somehow. It really helped me a lot. Thanks for the reminder. I'll never give up those old jet fins!

Snowbear- Cool story. I bet it would be very interesting to hear the tales and adventures of the guys that started out with horse collars and steel 72s, not to mention an inverted bucket and bicycle pump!

WELCOME CHUMMER!! I was glad to run across this thread and see that others had "dad" stories .... I took up scuba not really thinking about my dad being in the Navy when he was young. When he found out I had become certified, he started telling me little bits & pieces of things like this excerpt from an e-mail "at Sub School we had to make ascents from 25, 50 and 100 ft. This was done with the Mumson Lung which recycled the air you breathed out. We left a chamber and came up a knotted line, stopping every 10 ft to decompress" - it actually gave us some common ground to talk a bit. He passed on recently, but I often think that scuba is a little link to him - maybe a bit of an inherited trait!! It would be great to hear more stories like yours and Snowbear's......

And welcome to SB. :wavey: Put us in your Favorites and check in often.
