Is there any decent shore diving around Wilmington NC ? I haven't been diving in a year and would like to sort myself out (new wing, new wetsuit) before I get on a boat.

Not really, like Linda said the quarry is an ideal place for that kind of stuff.

Seeing that you're from nyc, I assume you might be traveling? On a calm day you can probably dive from the beach as long as you don't expect to see anything but sand (and only if the sand is close to your face). It won't make your list of top 10 dives, but you probably could swim around and just get comfortable in your gear. Watch for rip and longshore currents. Another option might be the hotel pool?

Another option would be to take a quick trip to the Liberty Ship (or similar inshore shallow training site) with Aquatic Safaris.

Sorry I don't have better news.
