I got my camera back from Olympus service and have tested it for a couple days. Today it exhibited the following symptoms:

The camera LCD started to blink and said low battery so I changed the batteries. The camera with freshly charged batteries would show the start screen and go blank when I turned it on. When I turned the camera off it would show the shut down screen. Now it's just black.

I'm hoping a new set of batteries will help but I kinda think service is again in the future.

Any body got any ideas or steps to troubleshoot?

I'm sure to keep everyone informed of progress. I may have to dig out the oly manual - yuck!

Some good news maybe - as I was charging my new set of batteries, they got HOT. Maybe the charger is bad?

I put some cheap alkaline batteries in and it's back to life, for now. Stuff must need replacing (upgrading ?) huh :D.

Whew! Aren't ya glad it only took some cheap alkalines to figure that one out! :D

I had a charger go bad. I never noticed the batteries getting hot, they had cooled by the time I took them out of the charger. But the camera did the same thing. I finally broke down and bought a good charger.

Sometimes, when charging, my batteries get hot and sometimes they don't. It has never effected how long I was able to use that perticular set of batteries.

I went out and bought a couple cheap chargers and 8 2500 mAh AA batteries - I'm loaded for bear!!!!!! :D

Sometimes it's just one battery out of a set that's bad so check all the batteries. One of my MAHA chargers always heats the batteries while an identical one never does. Go figure. MAHA just came out with a charger that will do 8 batteries at a time as well as several choices of the type of charge. Now I just have to carry one charger with me to cover camera and strobe.
