Take a look at OxyCheq...
very nice looking wings!...but $475. I'm not sure I can justify that much for the amount of diving and type of diving in my foreseeable future
@bradlw have you reached out to halcyon to see if they can do something to help you out?
no. that was my first thought though, but once I reminded myself that it doesn't have a replaceable internal bladder, I'd guess the only thing they could do is offer some sort of discount. Maybe I will reach out though just to see what they say!

Thanks boss I'm glad I caught this one you see I don't open notifications I just go round through What's new

and round and round and round until I end up square

These really are great wings, I have a few and many name brands to compare them to too

Next to a faded immediately oxycheq

I might try and drive over one, on grass though is that okay
So the one on the left is $475, the one on the right is $132?
How's the fit and trim with that thing when diving?
Can you give a head-to-head comparision between it and some of the others.... are the higher prices worth it it any way for general warm water recreational dives?
Seems like a better size for sure. Wish they had something other than cammo though. I want my dive buddies to be able to see me..... and I'm not going duck hunting in the thing! :)

@bradlw We no longer make the 20lb wing, I need to update the information. We stopped making it because it was less than 1" of difference in width compared to the 30lb wing, which was kind of redundant. You had to put them next to each other to tell which was which they were so close in size.

The 'stability' line of wings we make is nominally 30 lbs, but with tank compression is probably more like 25 lbs. It's definitely narrower than the 30lb wing, because the lift is redistributed.

The cool part of the stability wings though is the low profile elbow and recessed dump valves I put in the latest model, and our traditionally quick dry material, which is awesome for travel. The wing dries in 5 minutes in the sun.
For some odd reason I’ve decided to buy one of the stability wings, hopefully it will arrive in time for my Curacao trip in 10 days ;)
I like the quick dry material, had a 20 lb but loaned it to a friend who assumed it was a gift??? I need to stop being nice.

It is a shame the VDH Argonaut wings are long gone because the VDH 18 is very tiny and much smaller than any 30 from anybody. This in part due to the clever internal perimeter bungee, the wings shrinks up to nothing, hardly even visible. My Oxy 18 in comparison to the VDH is huge and the Oxy 18 is a very small, sleek wing! Just me I suppose, but I would not want a 30 for warm water/tropical travel. More than I need and more than I need runs counter to my minimalist mantra. Less is more.

I love my Argonaut Dive (VDH) 18 for warm water. Like it isn't there. The end of production of them was so unfortunate (in many ways). I have a HOG 23, but it is so wide I don't like it.

I so wish someone would take up production of them again. That line of wings was fantastic. IIRC, there was an 18, 23, 30, and 35.

The 18 was really nice but it’s no longer available so we have to use what we can get.

I do have some sympathy for these companies trying to sell right side equipment but the vast majority of buyers think anything less than 40 of lift is scary.

I also have a VDH Argonaut 23 that I got for solo with a slung pony. I get a lot of positive comments for the VDH wings, especially after other divers see me in the water with them. They do notice the wing virtually dissappears in use and that there is no taco wrap. They are also very sad when I tell them they are NLA :(. Most wings on the market are simply too wide, especially the inner panel. I guess this is because they are compromised for use on doubles plates. But it leads to taco wrap which hinders venting and causes fluffing in current.

I agree a sleek 30 pounds wing is a good compromise for temperate water and tropical use but I am go to stick with it also not being optimal for warm/tropical travel.

Interesting discussion I think. Got me to thinking a little more targeted about more than just overall volume/bouyancy

Narrow is important, but as I think about it length might also be...in terms of the small pocket of air moving around and even getting trapped
A longer wing is going to potentially throw off head to toe trim

What do ya'll think is more important to keep small?
width? length? thickness?

I did some real quick googling for approx dimensions, in inches (")
and US$
most sites don't seem to list the 3rd thickness dimension, but I suppose left/right and head/toe are perhaps the most interesting for trim

I'd like to stay well <$300 but I through in a couple I found that are North of that for honorable mention. I ddn't even bother looking at the ones that are >$500

Hog 23#, 17.3" x 22.5", $239.95
DGX S1 30#, 13" x 23", $289
Deep Six, 30#, 18" x 26", $359.95 or $369.95
Alibaba 18#, 15.75" x 24", $256
Alibaba 30#, 16.93" x 25.2", $132
XS Scuba Highlander 20#, 14.2" x 21.7", $329.95 (this one looks pretty good to me but it's pricey)
Dive Rite Travel 25#, 16.25" x 24.5", $449
Apex D18 18#, dimensions not found but it looks narrow and long, $469 (this one looks VERY good to me but maybe too long?? and it's pricey)
Hollis 22#, dimensions unknown but it looks like a well proportioned nice shape although I'm unsure how I feel about the taper towards the butt end, but it's too pricey anyway $434.95

I'll have to measure my old Halcyon when I get home for comparison.

I actually think the Apex might possibly be the best looking shape of these to my eye but it does look long. A little bubble of air shifting from head to toe could throw trim haywire....

The DGX has solidly small length and width dimensions, which seems like it would be good
but to get 30# lift with that it must inflate to be pretty thick. Since it's narrow I'd think that it would resist taco folding, but does that mean it squeezes forward more pressing the diver's body?

Have any of ya'll dove with the DGX &/or the XS Scuba Highlander?

Just based on price, I can hardly resist ordering the one from China that @happy-diver linked, but it arrives scarily too close to my planned dive trip in early August
