LG Diver:
Sorry- it was just an example of how if you go solely by model name/number you might conclude that something was inferior when in fact it might be identical to another "higher" model. This is not necessarily unique to Apeks.

Check the site and you will see their offerings. I would considder them to be "basic" regs. But as I said, I use a matching set. Someone may need that occto, maybe me, and I want a breather that is up to the task in cold water. Plus I trade the regs out once a season to be sure both are used.

i dive in abit warmer water i hate the cold thanks ill lok into one of those
You sound like you are looking for a regulator that will work well in typical recreational environemnts, at water temperatures that are not considered "cold" by the manufacturers.

Pretty much any mid line or higher regulator set from any major manufacturer will suit your needs fairly well. There are so many options in the mid lihe and higher category I can not list them here.

If you want to consider high end regulators most of the more reputable companies make them. For high end regulators I would consider the following...

From ScubaPro, either the MK17 or MK25 series first stages paired with the X650, S600, or G250 series second stages.

From Apeks, they describe things a little differently so work with me here. The DS4 / ATX50, the ATX50, the ATX100, the ATX200 are all high end sets. The new XTX series with the same numbers after the letters should offer similar performance.

Dive Rite also makes a very nice regulator with the RG2500 system.

From Aqualung, The Legend LX series are high quality and performance.

From Zeagle, their ZX series regualtors are where to zero in on your quest.

I am less familiar with Atomic, and Mares, but they and others do offer high quality and high performance regulator sets.

With regards to your choice for a backup second stage or "octopus". Many divers, myself included choose to have a second stage that is identical to their primary second stage. Normally you will not use this backup, but when you do it will almost certainly be when you or your buddy are having SERIOUS problems. This is not the time or place to save a few dollars. If you need to deploy your backup regulator you are in a high stress situation, and there have already been some problems, use a good high quality backup.

Good Luck,

The diference in price between "mid range" regs that work fairly well, and an intelligent choice in a high end reg is pretty small. The Apeks for instance, an ATX 50, compared to an ATX200, will be indistinguishable in breathing effort. Yet cost less than the 200. They have an outstanding reputation for reliability, and ease of service. I can't see skimping on a purchace like this. BUT,, this only my opinion, nothing else.

I'm not sure you know a lot about what you're talking about. They are offering the sales on basically their entire line up - both on the Apeks and Aqualung line. I don't know much about the Apeks, but the Legend LX I would dive in any cold water environment (and intend to do so with mine). They offer a cold water version (the LX Supreme) but it's nothing more than the intermediate pressure is lowered, a snowflake on the 2nd, and a cold water mouthpiece. I'll just lower my intermediate pressure on mine and save the extra $15.

I've dove temps down to 38F. The octo that is provided with the Legend LX is the Legend octo - which has been stated in a previous post to be the equivalent of the Legend LX 2nd. It's dressing in yellow and has a bit different adjustment knob, but it's the same reg. It's also cold water rated.

A decent reg at a decent price is a Tusa

I definitely agree. The Tusa RS 130 reg is one of the best breathing regs in it's price range... and even if you throw a few more hundred dollars at it. And they have a lifetime warranty. We deal with a lot of customers that have so much sticker shock from looking at $450 for a 1st and 2nd stage reg, they nearly faint when they find out they can get an entire reg setup with lifetime warranty and computer for that same price, that will perform just as good for recreational diving.

Do you want the easiest ? or the best bang for the buck ? PM me or email me...good luck...I have a few more questions

That is the set up I have, and yes I got it from you guys. You guys rule!!!! :D

I dive an RG2500 setup with the ice kit (making it a sealed reg). Both of my 2nd stages are the same. It's quite a nice setup; decent price and breathes great. :)
