I spoke to my shop about this. The occto's are bottom of the line unit's.
Sounds like yet another LDS playing "word games". Depending upon which reg you buy, the free octos--Legend with Legend reg, and Calypso/Titan with Titan reg--are definitely not bottom of the line. They are both excellent octos.

I recommend Apex Atx200, Scubapro MK25/S600 reliable regs

i need to find a dependable easy breathing reg.
i need opinions from more experienced divers on what kind i should get

Very true - I have the Agualung Legend LX ACD and Legend Octo from this promotion sitting in the box waiting to get wet...

A lot of places are clearing out the Apeks ATX200's right now, since they're rolling out the XTX series. My LDS was clearing out their inventory of ATX200's for $399 a few weeks ago. If you can find one at this price I'd jump all over it.

This so true especially for the Legend. It is the same as the Legend second with yellow trim. It is an Apeks equivalent air balanced second. I would take what this LDS says with a BIG grain of salt.

Sorry, the shop never said they were bottom regs. It was my opinion when he told me what the offer was. I expect the occto to be the same as the primary reg. I see a lot of people going into 36 deg. F. water with a cold water pri, and an occto that is worthless in these temps. When I research a new reg,and buy it, I naturally considder the others in the line to be a lesser choice.

You need to be careful and understand that manufacturers sometimes play naming games for reasons that are beyond me. For example, the Apeks ATX50, ATX100, and ATX200 2nd stages are identical except for the face plate. At face value, one would be inclined to think that the ATX200 2nd stage was in some way superior to the ATX50 when, in fact, the only thing it's better at is removing money from your wallet.

The offer was not giving an ATX as a choice for an occto.

Sorry- it was just an example of how if you go solely by model name/number you might conclude that something was inferior when in fact it might be identical to another "higher" model. This is not necessarily unique to Apeks.
