That really applies to anything new, try it 3 times before you decide you don't like it.

Ber :lilbunny:

That is what I tell people when I'm trying to convince them to try eating sushi! :068: I know..off topic...sorry.

Very good. Maybe I'll see you either above or below the water. All of us pilots need to stick together.

At no time did I allow myself to believe that I would be unable to breathe without a mask, or that it would be the one skill I can't do, or whatever. I believed that I could actually learn to like doing it. As crazy as it sounds, in the end, I did like doing it. But it took practice to get that way. ... I record my experience here in case it will stop someone else who is similarly afraid from turning away from diving. ... The worrying didn't make a difference. I had a clear vision of what I wanted, stuck to it, and not only did I end up making it through, I actually enjoyed it. ... I am glad that instead of sitting in the dark worrying, I was honest and unembarrassed about my concerns and talked to some nice people who had been there in the past.
As others have said, I am delighted to hear it went well! Congratulations. And, thanks for sharing the outcome, because it lets people know what ultimately happened. Now, you are very well-positioned to help others who come to SB in the future with similar concerns.

Hey ... very cool.

I hope other beginners see your post.

Again welcome!!!

Congrats! Just wait until you'll take your mask off for 10-20 minutes at a time just to make other dives look at you wierd, or when you do a dive with sunglasses on! I didn't like taking my mask off at first at all, but I made myself do it, and now I take it off routinely just for fun, to see how my trim stays and whatnot.

Also, that spare air you bought....well people are sharply divided over this, but I would advise you to take it back if you still can, and invest the money in a small pony bottle, say 19 or 30 cubic feet, that won't get in your way, but which will give you enough air to actually do something. SpareAir doesn't give you much spare air at all, really. Just enough to swim to the surface, any other problems could get you killed :) I'm not certain exactly how much they cost, but I think you could get a pony bottle and a used regulator here for about the same, or not much more.

If you ca't return it, that's fine, it won't kill you, but there are better alternatives that you learn more about the longer you dive.
