hey-

just got back to ole miss after completing my OW and Nitrox checkouts.
I made 5 dives at ABWA.

Saturday the water was 61' from 0-30', and I heard talk of temps in the high 50's down past the thermocline. The air temp was around 75, but it dropped a little when the storms rolled in. The viz was probably 12-15' depending on where you were.

Sunday the water was about the same 60ish temps, but the air was 41, so if you weren't under water, it was COLD. We did two dives, one to see fish at the 20' platform and the other to see the pipes and the car between the docks and the pipes. Max depth was around 30' and viz was a little less due to a car sinking on saturday (btw, it was a late 90s ford contour, and it's between the main docks and the sailboat, at the edge of the road bed. probably 65' down. )

I wore my 2mm shorty over my 3mm wetsuit, with 2mm gloves and 1.5mm hood, and I was only chilly when I wasn't moving or when I had to stand in the wind and 41 degrees on the surface.

I'm goin back next weekend when the weather is supposed to be sunny and 80s. Water temps will probably only be 2-3 degrees wamer, but the surface will be much better.

Congrats! I'm jealous!

Did you see Frank and Pierce? Frank is my dive buddy. Prolly in his green Saturn, pierce, not sure what he drives. :) Frank was/is getting his AOW and Nitrox certs. I sure wish I was there.

Pierce? As in Mississippi rescue diver Pierce? He posts on ScubaBoard as Nuttz.

Bigmartty, congratulations on the OW cert!

Congrats on he OW cert! Did my original OW checkout at Pelham as well, few years ago. Plan on visiting shortly to see the new addition (once it warms a bit)...

You guys went??? I thought it was called off.

Yeah it was great! We had a blast. I can't wait to go next weekend. I just hope we can convince our parents we need gear.

Hi Annie, welcome to SB. It's nice to see another person from Mississippi here. :14: I hope that you going to Mississippi State and not that "other place" :D Just joking...Welcome.

Congrats man! I wasn't sure if you were still there, otherwise I would have yelled out, MARTY MARTY MARTY!!! :D

I'm sure I saw you guys, we were in the green Toyota Tacoma. There were so many people there when we first pulled up, around 10am, it would have been hard to find your group..

We did sit and watch the OW guys on the platform, saw a guy shoot to the top from it too, and then get his butt chewed out by the instructor :D
