I use a SS Halcyon plate white single tank diving with a shorty wetsuit. I go to the AL backplate while diving dry w/ doubles and a weight belt to get more weight towards my feet. I dive twin 104's.

Still a little floaty in the feet w/ this setup. I'm trying some ankle weights this week to see what happens. I'm okay while swimming, but hovering causes all of the problems! And I didn't even know I had a problem until the DIRF class!!

I want to sell my Ranger now and get a BP/Wings setup too! With all of the great info on the board here I turned a newbie diver friend of mine onto the BP/Wings setup for his first gear purchase and he picked up the Halcyon SS backplate and the Pioneer 36lb. wing. All I can say is that I was extremely impressed with his rig. I was extremely jealous when I went over to his place to help him set it up too. I think I'll be doing the old Ranger-->Ebay-->BP/Wing maneuver at some point but I'm gonna have to wait until I've saved more $$.:)

Ankle weights are nothing more than a crutch. Proper gear configuration and form will solve the problem. If the problem is air getting into the legs of your drysuit, get some Gatorz.

the streamlining effects of a properly weighted and configured backplate and harness are truly amazing...

I got the chance to dive with my old instructor and another DM from his shop yesterday. Somebody hit their turn pressure and we kicked back over to the exit point (shore dive). My old instructor asked me how much gas I had left and I responded 1600 psi. He said, "Jesus..."

After using Zeagle Concepts for a long time, and then a Ranger, I was finally able to get my own setup.

I went with a Halcyon 6lb Steel BP with a 36lb Wing and ACB weighting. I dove it Sunday (three dives) for the first time and never felt so streamlined. I was using the frog kick and just went gliding away. When I first got the harness, I thought it would be uncomfortable without pads, but it's not.

I'll never use a "normal" BC configuration again...

Based on what I read, I expected the rig to be comfortable in the water, but I didn't expect being able to glide the way I did. I had to focus on finning at way less than full speed during my class last week, or I would have been a "bad buddy" for my Scubapro-BC-wearing partner. And we were motoring along on some Search and Rescue dives!

I can't wait to get back into the water, but it will probably be a while, as I think my wife is going into labor as I type.

Uh, I think I should go now. :) :D :)

See you guys underwater!
