I am taking my regulator and BC there today to get it checked out.

The dive shop does lots of dives. They have a night dive every tuesday and go somewhere every weekend. The also go to Cozumel every month. Sounds pretty fun, can't wait to get started!

The one thing, I found about padi, is it put divers through the course quickley. I took my course through ACUC. I had physiology of diving, anatomy<what happens to the body under pressure>, Physics, diver rescues<how to calm a panic diver, rescue an unconcious diver> rescue swimming techniques, mandatory 4 open water dives, and a 5th to get used to being on your own with your buddy. Did the 4 open waters in one weekend. I took this course one night a week from February til April (some weekend pool time) and did our checkouts on May 14th. Water temperature here was about 2 degrees celcius..brrr is all I can say :P ... This was just for our open water certification.

I guess what I am trying to say.. is make sure you come out of the course with the know how. And make sure you feel comfortable with diving when the course is over.. don't let any questions you have go unanswered....

Ross,

If you are from the Dallas area, feel free to send me a message about local shops. I know a private instructer that will train you and not try to sell you anything you don't need. And he's cheaper than any LDS.

Hi Ross,
It might be this appears twice, but my computer tends to live it own life.
To cut it short: Your equiptment might be out of fashion, but not out of style. Your BCD is a model which originates from the Scubapro classic jacket. It bouyancy is brilliant under water. Than your Regulator, the mk2 with r190 is the most used reg. in dive centres over Europe. The 1st stage is very simple and does not have a lot of parts in it. The less it has the less can get damaged. These regulators are indistrucable. Be glad you GOT one.
Now get yourself down there and enjoy diving and most of all start to get used to YOUR equiptment, this will last a long time, so you might as well enjoy it. If you have any furher questions or comments feel free to contact me.
cioa for now,
Berdi
