Let's know how it goes, Ross.....

It sounds like you've gotten good advice and are well underways. Be safe and have fun -- and let's know how your training and future diving goes.

You're in for the fun of your lifetime :)

Here is the vest. Hope this works.

Ross:
Regulator. It says 2 thing on it. R190 and MK2.

That's the SPG (Submersible Preasure Gauge), not the regulator ;) However there is a "big shiny thing" and a "thing you can breath from" -- which read MK2 and R190 at the end of the air-hose. That's the regulator (1. and 2. stage) of the brand ScubaPro. Has a good reputation, so get it serviced and it should be just fine :)

As for your "vest" (called a BCD - Bouyancy Compensator Device), I cannot tell if it's worth something or not. Have your instructor take a look at it before deciding....

When will you be starting classes?

This is going to be an interesting situation. Ross, you'll have to report to us. As most LDS are in the training business just to be able to sell gear, you might not be their favorite client...or they'll try everything to convince you that your stuff is out of style...

Ross:
Fins wake-i am not a joker or jack in the box or whatever that is. I know what your talking about though. I am just a newbie....i promise.
Loveley-jubbeley. I was assuming as much, which is why I replied.
Ross:
On some of my sw aquarium boards people come and ask stupid questions just to get a rise out of people.
Which has happened here as well, and considering it was your first post, I just wanted a little caveat in case you were a troll. Incidentally, I was actually looking for a "troll" emoticon, not a joker, but couldn't find one. :moose:

Anyway, lots of good answers in the thread for you from lots'a different folks, and it's great you've got some equipment to start with. Get it checked and serviced, as someone suggested earlier. And buy some new stuff if you're unhappy with any particular piece of gear. Enjoy the sport! :thumb:

Ross where in Texas do you live? I can probably give you some insite to who to use in your area.

Hey guys

I went to my LDS today and the people were very nice. It is PADI 5 star whatever that means. The lessons are for 2 weekends. The first you get a book work on that. The second you go dive.

The PADI 5 star-ranking hasn't really got much to do with the actual quality of training. There are good and bad 5-star centres. PADI is the largest scuba training agency in the world. I think they're as good as any other recreational scuba agency, no better, no worse, and have done many courses with them and been happy. Others - quite a few of whom are active on this board - seem to think they're the minions of Beelzebub. :sgrin:

The really important - and good - point though was that the people at your LDS were "very nice". If you're happy with your training, you can do more courses there. If not, there are other dive shops, and also other agencies.

Have fun diving and enjoy your new hobby. Diving is so much fun! Remember to go easy, small steps, and dive safely. :happywave

If the courses are spread over 2 WE, you'll probably have so pool work on the first WE and the open water dives on the second.
