I have a question about BP & Harness

If any tech divers can help me answer on...... I have a new harness for my back plate and it is one continuous piece of 2" webbing no plastic clips or adjusters...... my question is how tight do you have to get the shoulder harness? are there any rules of thumb here, if it is too tight it's hard to get in and out of it and if it is too loose I have a feeling the whole rig will sag.
I would appreciate any feedback.
